cannot allocate draw buffer

Please help. I just got civ 3 gold for christmas and I keep getting a cannot allocate draw buffer error.
I am using WinMe and an All In Wonder Radeon graphics card. Any suggestions?

I've got the same problem with Conquests... Using XP and onboard SIS video.. can't help yet, but if I find something I'll let you know.

He I heard something about needing directx version 9.0b
If you are using 9.0a there might be directdraw conflicts. Try this and get back to me if it works.

i get the same error, and i have directx ver. 9.0b.

Are you having other programs using DirectX running?

No. Actually, my problem went away. after searching through forums here and elsewhere for a solution, i got frustrated and removed every shred of the game. a couple hours later I reinstalled it.. and it works perfectly.
