Annoying pauses between music tracks

This is an old problem, but I couldn't be bothered to complain before...

When I'm playing Civ3 (and PTW), whenever a new music track starts there is an annoying pause of a few seconds, and then everything just gets slow and choppy for a few seconds too, while the new track is starting to play.

I wonder if this is a result of me not doing a full installation of the game...

What, there is music in the game? I never play any game music, but I would expect it would not be due to any flavor of the installation.

I would think it is more a function of your sound support and your system. Does the sound card/mb use any cpu cycles, how fast is the CD, etc.

well, the sound card is actually part of the motherboard...

so yes, it uses cpu cycles... my cd-rom is only 36x...
