  • I'm stupid and I need help with hotseat.

Ok, here's the deal. I'm playing a hotseat c3c game with my bro and were having trouble with diplomacy so I have a few questions.

    1. In the instructions it says that there are emote controls on the negotiating screen. I couldn't find them, are they just not there in hotseat?

    2. In SMAC I could send messages over (like requests) in a negotiation during hotseat. can I do it here? I haven't been able to find a way.

and now for something totally different:

    3. I'm only playing hotseat because when we play multiplayer over the LAN it insists on going through the internet and gamespy, which slows everything down. Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

    thanx in advance

AFAIK, it -tries- to go via the internet, but normally goes back to just playing local games afterwards. Then, I'm on dial-up internet so it very quickly realises it can't get to gamespy when we're playing LAN games

I simply tell the firewall 'fine, let it through', and let it see the error of it ways, in it's own time!
It's all my territory really, they just squat on it...!
She didn't declare war on me, she's just playing 'hard to get'...

Answer to Q2 is no you can not negotiate with other hotseat player you either have to offer or reject you may only offer then click send it then says to the other player you have offered it they then will offer you something and click send the offer then comes back to player 1 if they like it click accept then send if you dont like it click clear table and exit the offer then goes bak to player two and they accept it and send (simple) or you can sraight away accept and send and its there pizz easy.

aahz, it's been awhile since I've played a LAN game, (PTW) so some info may be dated.

Emotions, I do remember being able to change my countenance to Happy/Neutral/Angry when in the diplo screen, but I can't remember where the button is to click. Somewhere near 'your' face IIRC.

I solved the GameSpy problem. I didn't install it. You can still play LAN games w/o GS, it just tries to find some TCP/IP host. Sure, I can't play over the Internet, but then again, I didn't want to.

Also, IIRC, when you launch a LAN game, there was an option for 'Local' or 'Internet'. Or something like that. My experience in this matter is dated.
