Should I start up a game of C3C or wait for the beta patch?

I just purchased C3C and I am interested only in a standard random map game. I am just curious if the game's current patch needs are severe enough to warrant waiting for the beta patch.

Depends if you can stand to wait or not. I know I couldn't.

There are very many vocal posters here who ARE waiting for the patch, and consider the game broken without it. However, there is certainly plenty to test out with the game as is. As it is, since the two biggest issues are corruption and the gpt bug, these do not feature much until you start to establish a sizeable empire around the Medieval era and other civs reach governments beyond Despotism, that allow got to become an option. Thus you can certainly safely play the Ancient Era with very little sight of these concerns, and even part of the Medieval Era. Civs like the Inca, Mayans and Sumerians have early UUs, so you could test these out to your heart's content with no effect from the changes to corruption.

I say test it out, but then I am in a minority and rather happy with the game as is. Patches are welcome, but not necessary to get enjoyment out of it, IMO.

How bad is the corruption? My wife and I just started playing last night, and already are experiencing a lot of it--very annoying.

I got up for work this morning, and my wife was STILL playing...I love that woman!

I think I'll have to leave this one up to others - although I have noticed the extra corruption, it doesn't bug me.

There are plenty here who it DOES bug however. They could tell you in more graphic terms how much it annoys them. I don't care, I just enjoy it.

I for one would start with those Conquests where the 2 important bugs (Fp & gpt) don't hurt - Mesopotamia (FP possible, but not needed), Mesoamerica (no FP at all), Sengoku (ok, gpt hits here), and the tutorials. Even if your main interest is the epic game, you can test the new features like traits, SGLs, Armies here.

By the time you're done with them, the beta patch should be out easily.

If you insist on random game only, I wouldn't start anything above Monarch/ Standard size. And even then, the bugs do hurt the AI as well, so things are rather screwed.

FP = Forbidden Palace.
gpt = gold per turn
SGL = Scientific Great Leader
MGL = Military Great Leader

Did I miss any?

UU == unique unit
IMO == in my opinion
epic game == random, full length c3c game as opposed to scenarios listed in conquests menu at start of game.

Blackwulf: get going! The game's terrific as far as I'm concerned. There may be a few things in there that bother some but not me. There's so much to play around with, whether it's the new stuff in the normal game or all the new Conquest scenarios, you'll have plenty to do and plenty of fun until the real patch comes in January.

Why not play some games for the fisrt age or two to see how things changed and the new stuff. After a few of these the patch should be out.

Corruption is a bigger issue as you move up levels. It makes it so you can not get reasonable production out of the core or makes the core smaller in effect.
You need to be able to be more productive with the large core to offset the bonus of the AI at the highest levels and that is more problematic now.

Get it now and start playing. That way, when/if the patch comes-out you will be able to appreciate it more.

Play till AD.......you wont notice the problems so much before then, and you can see the new traits/gameplay elements before the patch arrives.

I would tool around with it to get a feel for some of the new things and civs, but I would wait for the patch to come out before playing a committed game.
