mod problems

Hello everyone.
I am trying to write a mod for Civ III 9core game only, don't have exp.s yet) but when I save it to CIVIII.mod i can only get the game to load as far as getting to the initial play screen (where it introdices you to you're tribe and says that you wise men have discovered whatever). At that point i will always get a message that say that this program has preformed an illegal action and must now close. what have i done wrong. (ps running WIN98 SE)

It could be a number of things. Start from scratch, and take it one step at a time until it works. And save it as a scenario, don't overwrite he original file, you'llsave yourself a hassle until you get things working. You might have to start from the beginning a number of times before you get the bugs worked out.
