The way I see it, with all the new rules in place for corruption, (I’m talking about the supposed new corruption bug) you need to make a single core on your starting continent. It doesn’t matter if you are monarchy or republic. You build out until you cant expand anymore because of corruption and your OCN. At that point stop. Meanwhile, you explore the world. You find a nice juicy bit of land on a new continent (New World), and you set up a new core with a forbidden palace. Hopefully you can use a MGL for the build. Hopefully you got one while you were wresting control of your second core from the natives. After you get that going, get Democracy and have a revolution. Now you will have the best modifier for distance corruption and the best modifier for OCN. Now you have two productive cores, although they may be slightly more corrupt than you are accustomed to, at least they both can produce something. You have courts and police stations and policemen to help you with corruption.

I think this is story arch for Conquests, it highly resembles western civ, which many believe the game is based on anyway.

I am not so sure there is any need to lose sleep over corruption.
Surely there is no need to switch to demo, unless you just want it.
If you are a religious civ, then fine, switch all you want.

You want to have all the land you can get, unless you decide to just wipe out all the civs with your core production. I will add city after city and not sweat how many shields I net out. Put the sucker on wealth and set a citizen to a specialist.

If I am in a contients map with basically two large land masses, I will roll onto the second one with the intent of crushing the other civs. I don't care about FP or palace jumps. I don't need them at this point. I will raze or annex all the cities I come across. If I am at the point where I have airports. I only want to get one in the first city. I don't care about culture or corruption. I am going to use force. I am going to send in units from the core every turns and keep pushing out until I either eliminate them or cripple them.
