  • Strange AI techpace

Noticed something in my monarch game.

AI civs which were 1 tech away from moving into a new era, once they get it (not from me) quickly gather up whatever techs the rest of the Civs have gathered in that area.

So a civ which needed currency to move to middle ages, will suddenly have Fuedalism, Engineering and Monotheism. Granted I haven't counted the turns it took them to obtain that. Scientific may be a reason, but I've seen this happen to non scientific civs too.

It does appear AIs are better now at arbitrage trading. Trading one tech for another then turning it around to trade for another. But I've played monarch game before and haven't recalled a civ that is behind catching up so quickly and then getting a bunch of techs with no apparent way of paying for it. Heck the AI won't trade most techs to me, and they want an arm and a leg for the ones that are obsolete. The AI to AI trade factor might be a reason,, but I've played monarch in PTW and the pace wasn't like this. A cash strapped AI civ will usually remain behind, no matter if there is an era shift..

Anyone observed this in Monarch or above levels?

Hah... I'm playing monarch age of discovery as the incas and am getting kicked... stupid europeans all declared war on me within 4 turns of each other and the only reason why I'm not eliminated is because they take so long to get units to my land...

But they had been trading techs with me at negotiable prices (too expensive with one AI, try another... get a dif price)...

But everyone that will acknowledge me has the same techs as everyone else, no exceptions.

perhaps though, the tech movement is dif in this scenario?

I've seen that happen before in Play the World.
