  • Sugar and Tobacco not working...

Still playing my first game with the new expansion, but in that game I have multiple sugar and tobacco plots with roads, and they are not showing up as tradable luxuries nor as marketplace luxuries.

Did I not RTFM correctly? Anybody else getting these as working luxuries?

Sugar and tobacco aren't luxuries, they're simply bonus tiles such as wheat or cattle.

Oh. Dangit, I thought they'd added more tradable luxuries. Ah well.

Nope, just the original 8 luxs, you now get 4 more resources for bonus tiles.

Honestly I've been thinking about modding furs to a bonus resource and tobacco to a lux Makes more sense to me unless you live in Siberia :P

I like the additional bonus tiles...it gives the geography more variety. So far I'm loving the changes...

              Furs aren't hides?
              Haven't been here for ages....

I guess not as they are show as still alive. IIRC in civII they were shown as hides.

What would be nice is if you could activate/deactivate luxuries with tech advances. (Not reveal/hide, but change from bonus to lux and back to bonus).

Howabout a coffee luxury? Come on! No one ... can live ... without coffee

A connected coffee luxury would increase productivity in all your cities with 10%

I'm actually thinking of switching Ivory to a bonus resource (thus making the Zeus wonder less based on chance, and possibly requiring for India's UU as well...) and switching tobacco to a luxury.

Other than that, the new stuff isn't all that exciting. Too bad they couldn't find a way to add luxuries without unbalancing the system.

Edit: Just so nobody gets the wrong idea, by "Other than that, the new stuff isn't all that exciting" I am referring specifically to the bonus resources, not the expansion as a whole. As a whole, I'm loving it... (queue McDonald's commercial).

                          They could have if they had reduced the effect of marketplaces (e.g., 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2).
