I've already discovered a bug. In this campaign, you can upgrade your daimyo when you get the appropriate technology. However, if you don't upgrade him before you get the next step, he becomes unupgradeable. This seems to be because shogun1 upgrades to shogun2 and shogun2 upgrades to shogun3 and so on. So if you have shogun1 when you get the tech for shogun3 you can't upgrade him, because shogun1 only upgrades to shogun2 and that's no longer available!! It seems they neglected to allow for this occurence.... I see a patch for this soon.

I've done this before. Are you sure you have all the requirements? Gold and barracks?

This is using standard upgrade logic. It is no different than going from a warrior to a Med Inf in a regular game.

Aboslutely positive. I'm very familiar with all versions of Civ3. In this case I had a barracks, I had the tech, I had gold, I even had the iron needed to build the units for the tech. But no upgrade button ever appeared. I decided to test this by starting over. When I got the first upgrade tech, I immediately tried to upgrade my guy, and as I suspected, the button was there and the upgrade worked. So, if you don't upgrade your daimyo immediately (before you get the next upgrade tech) - you won't be able to for the rest of the scenario.

Did you try it with Shift-U?

I've just rechecked this and I have no problems at all upgrading a Shogun to Shogun 3 without going via 2. As Warpstorm said, there is no difference in how this works to any other standard upgrade in Conquests or CivIII, ie upgrading from Spearman to Musketman without upgrading to Pikemen in between.

Are you sure you have enough gold? With a shield difference of 40 and a Upgrade Cost setting of 3 it will cost you 120 gold to do this upgrade.
