  • Developer Update: The Wonders of Civ-Conquests

    Just noticed this at civ3.com:

    Some highlights...

Considering that Philosophy now also provides a free technology advancement to the first person to research it...
The Crusader units that it produces, while slower then knights, are just as strong and have the added ability to create fortresses.
Note that Crusaders are 5.3.1, meaning knights must now be 5.3.2.

Great Wall ( Kudos to the AU Mod!! ) :

This wonder has been changed to add walls to any city on the same continent.
    Shakespeare's Theater:

To further enhance this Wonder, we modified it so that it now allows you to surpass the 12 population limit in the city which it was built.
    Military Academy:

...all Armies now receive 1/6th of the combined attack/defense rating as a bonus to the Armies combat effectiveness...
    Tourist wonders:

    The Pyramids
    The Oracle
    Hanging Gardens
    The Great Wall
    The Statue of Zeus
    The Temple of Artemis
    Mausoleum of Mausollos
    The Great Library
    The Colossus
    The Great Lighthouse
    The Sistine Chapel
    Leonardo's Workshop
    Copernicus's Observatory
    Shakespeare's Theater
    Newton's University
    JS Bach's Cathedral
    Hoover Damn
    United Nations

Hmm, may have to re-think that Republic beeline I've been using. Back to CivII, I see.

        Great Wall -
This wonder has been changed to add walls to any city on the same continent.
AU mod. This is now powerful, as a "Great Wonder" should be. I'm a tad surprised nothing was done to the Oracle.

          Some very improvements indeed

For those who tried this before:
          Wouldn't a 5.3.2 knight be a little strong?
          -
I'm surprised they didn't change anything on Hoover Damn. (well except the spelling that is )

            I doubt Knights are 5/3/2.

I think "just as strong" means "equally capable attackers". The death rate of Knights and Crusaders (on offense) is very similar (Knights retreat to fight another day, Crusaders punch harder).

What's wrong with the Hoover Dam?

Looks they decided a lot of stuff the posters on Apoly and CFC were doing were good ideas.

The AI's low pririty on getting it (saved my butt once on a deity game ) (could have been changed?)
If the human player gets it, it's virtualy game over.

Ah, then you would have to solve the Theory of Evolution problem first, right?

I'm thinking it may be difficult to get much time from the Tourist attraction from these:

Copernicus's Observatory : I can see reaching this before 1050 AD, but not much before 900 AD, and if your that far ahead, shouldn't you win by spaceship before the 1000 years occurs?

Shakespeare's Theater : I'd be impressed if anyone built this before 1050 AD.

Newton's University : I'd be impressed if anyone built this before 1200 AD.

Hoover Dam : I'd be impressed if anyone built this before 1300 AD.

United Nations: I'd be impressed if anyone built this before 1400 AD.

                          Templar Science Minister
AI: I sure wish Jon would hurry up and complete his turn, he's been at it for over 1,200,000 milliseconds now.

Tourist bonus only kicks in after 1000 years?

Maybe they should make it based partly on the number of turns.

From what I read (don't remember where) it is 100 TURNS for tourist attractions.
