  • If we install Conquests...

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but... if we install the Conquests expansion, does that mean that the PTW version gets overwritten so you can't go back to play the earlier version of the game without re-installing. (Say, I dunno, I don't like the new assigned traits of my favorite civilizations and wanna play the way I've gotten used to playing, will I have to reinstall to get back to "normal"?)

I don't believe so. For instance, I'm currently involved in 3 different PBEM PTW games and when Conquests is released, these games will be far from over. But that's really beside the point. Since Conquests is an expansion (just like PTW), you should be able to load Conquests and then play either Conquests or PTW - Just like you can play either PTW or Civ3 Basic right now.

      Hi mimi,

Yes, you can choose to play under the original Play the World rules. The installation doesn't give you a shortcut or anything, but if you go in and click on the appropriate executable in the PTW directory, you can play under the older Play the World rules. You can also use this method to play MP games with other Play the World owners who do not have Civ Conquests.

Do I have to have PTW installed before installing Conquests?

Nik: No. All you need is Civ III installed before installing C3C.

              A follow-up question:

What happens if I buy Conquest in Europe and install it over my original Civ3 (LE) that I bought in the USA (Amazon.com)? Will it work or are there differences that will prohibit correct functioning?

As far as I know european conquest will work with the american version of CivIII. (Finally!!!) Which is nice since I have the american version of civIII as well and live in europe.

Not the first time to be asked.
It does seem Jeff Jefftity Jeff (sorry, couldn't resist ), is very quick to answer any question regarding C3C, which of corse is very much appreciated .
However, AFAIK, there still has not been one single official comment regarding installing C3C on PTW/CIV3 when it comes to different versions (US/English...)

Could we get some kind of official answer please.

Well PTW has it's own folder like Civ3 (I think it can draw on stuff from the civ3 folder though). I would expect Conquests would also have it's own folder...which is inclusive of PTW anyway...

What I'd like to know is whether C3C will allow us to play PtW in a LAN i.e. PtW on one PC and C3C on another?
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

Shouldn't have to (It would probably come with a patch for regular Civ3, besides, what about the poor people who've never heard of the internet?)
