  • hay guys it's the Age of Discovery scenario

I see no discussion on this at the moment. So here is this thread for you to discuss it in.

Sounds like there are some pretty cool concepts at work here. For European players, you send colonists over to the New World to found cities. In cities near special resources, you eventually build resource-requiring buildings that generate Treasure every once in awhile. It's your job to get the Treasure back to Europe intact.

However, you can also pirate other nations Treasure and keep all the booty for your nation. ARRRRR!

American-played civs have to hold off the Europeans for as long as possible to try and get a Culture victory.

Also, this sounds promising about the editor and what it might allow us to do:
We already had wonders creating units on a periodic basis; we just needed to move that code so it applied to all possible improvements and wonders.

Sounds like this is another cool scenario. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

They've definently added some great editor fuctions and this scenario, like the others, sounds great. I love the idea of moving wealth from America to Europe (in the game, not real life ).

Yep, it sounds like a real neat scenario. I wanted to do a "Pirates of the carribean" scenario, and the improvements the Age of Discovery brings makes it very possible

Looks really like good scenario, the focus is exploring the seas and colonizing, couldn´t be more real (history )

It's happening in real life too.

Well, actually I'd have loved to see all of Europe in the scenario (Ottomans, Arabs, Russians etc.), so that colonization isn't its only focus, at least for the non-hispanic player. I think it would have been much more interesting to choose between engaging in European conflicts or colonizing the new continent.

Is any one else thinking that this would make a good basis for a Multi Team Demogame?

That could be awesome. Like if, say, teams assigned governors for their holdings in the new world and other people in charge of piracy.

The scenario is nine players and the multiplayer system still only handles 8.

The sceranio includes France, Holland, and England, and so each will get to compete in the scenario.

Yes, the Protogese and Spain start with an edge to match history at the start of the scenario, but I'm confident there was enough play testing and play balancing for France, Holland, or England to come from behind and win, like England did historically.

But couldn't Conquests have changed that?

That's what I was thinking, the President would be like the crown with Governors and Privateers doing their thing. Especially if the European civs were each a different team.

No, that would have required a whole new mp engine. They tweaked out the one they had to provide smoother online play and increase the playability of pbem. IMHO, the online mp game is a hugh leap over PTW. They really put a concerted effort into eliminating out-of-synch errors.

There has to be a way that you can play the conquests MP. If it wasn't possible to play any of the conquests with more than 8 civs (I imagine at least half of them) MP that would be a huge hit to the quality of the product. I'd like to think that it would have been brought up if this was the case.

You could always eliminate a civ.
