  • missing entry error

    Hi folks

    I recently installed CIV3 PTW with 1.27f over CIV3 1.29f

I just get strong in one greate game , but when I discover 'Radio', and go to Modern Age, the game crashes and shows

    missing entry in "GameRes\text\PediaIcons.txt": ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army

I try uninstall, deleted all files and registry values, install all over again as follows: civ3, patch, ptw, patch

After loading my last save game, Same problem

Any idea how to solve that?? I belive its just a missing file or line in pediaicons.txt

I'm playing with my own cenario, very simple, with only minor changes on units, buildings, custom map, etc.
    regards

    Ok, lets see:

    1. I have found that you have to start a new game for the reinstallation to work (i.e to stop that an error reacurring).

    2. If the above does not work, then you will have to check the Army unit in your mod for any anomilies that may contribute to the error.

    3. Look for any missing Army art in the art/units folder.

This is all the help I can give since I do not have PTW. What I am assuming is that some of the Civ3 - PTW knowledge stays the same.

    I hope this helps,

Open "PediaIcons.txt" -- the standard location is:

      C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\CIV3PTW\Text

Clicking on the file will open it in Wordpad; search for "animname" -- all the animation names are near the bottom of the file.

The section on armies (they are era specific) should read:

      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Ancient_Times
      Army Ancient Times
      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Middle_Ages
      Army Middle Ages
      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Industrial_Age
      Army Industrial Ages
      #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Modern_Era
      Army Modern Times

      Matching these in:

      C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization III\Art\units

should be a folder for each unit, entitled "Army Ancient Times" "Army Middle Ages" etc.

HOWEVER, in the editor, there should ONLY be an entry in Units only for "PRTO_Army" (the eras are sorted out by the entries in Pediaicons.txt)

Note my principal point is that there SHOULD NOT be a "ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army" entry in the PTW text file ... ONLY in the original "vanilla" Civ3 file of the same name!

-- So also make sure that "GameRes" is a meaningful part of the file pathway.

Let me know if that helps --

ok i had this error minutes ago and searched my way to this forum... now i have the error fixed! =)

        in the textfile, it was...
        #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Modern_Times
        Army Modern Times

        and i changed it to...

        #ANIMNAME_PRTO_Army_ERAS_Modern_Era
        Army Modern Times

it worked for me, at least for this next turn, good luck =)
