  • PTW Missing Files Help!!!

After a while not playing I've got PTW so started playing again. I installed it and everything went smoothly, It's fantastic!!, until reached Modern times, there, after the new era graph, next turn starts with a missing file txt. saying something like
" Arts/Units/WorkerModernTimes/WorkerModernDefault.flc not found" Then after the game exits.

I went to the specified folder and found out that there´s a folder with WorkerModernTimes name on it, but it has only a txt file, the one with a little bolt in it, I think is a programer thing, but no other files like sounds et al, even I checked the other folders under Units and found some units like F15 with the same situation.

Now it comes with another txt reporting a missing ifc23.dll

I got the 1.21 patch, reinstalled PTW and Civ3, even got Directx 9 and nothing seems to work, can't get those missing files and can't play past modern times.

    I've an Athlon XP 2100+, 512 DDR RAM, WinXP SP1, Nvidia TNT2 32Mb

Does anyone know how to fix this?

    hi ,

uninstall , look manually for files like ptw , infogrames , civilozation , firaxis , etc , .......

delete those , reboot , reinstall , get patch , before you do this check windows update for direct - X 9 and so , ...

make sure all other programs are closed while you do this and make sure all hard and software security is off (!)

that really ought to do it

    have a nice day

Well I don´t know what I did, but Murphy was right again, everything went wrong.

I uninstalled PTW, then Civ3, then loocked manually for files and deleted them, then rebooted, I already had all patches including upgrades to my motherboard, sound and video cards, DirectX9 and the Runtime patch.

Afte rebooting, I placed the Civ 3 cd and it promted me to uninstall or reinstall or play, I told it to uninstall which it did, and then reboot again, and everytime it prompts me to uninstall, doesn't let me install it again.

Now I don´t have a clue about what happened, but the only solution coming to my mind is to format C and do a clean install of Windows et al, posibility I hate.

Is there anything else I can try before going to that?

Locate the hidden folder "InstallShield Installation Information" in your Program Files folder

Delete the Subfolders named (Install information for part in pharanteses)
            {0AD84416-63A4-4CF3-BDDF-8FA866711FB0} (Civilization III)
            {31E2413D-8AA1-43EC-8B8D-77B65ADA4611} (Civilization III 1.29f)
            {E8650C8D-CCB2-496E-816C-ECC54A7EE411} (PTW)

If you are unsure check the setup.ini in the folders.

              Thanks Gramphos,

I'll do it tonight, actually at lunchtime I was thinking that there should be a hidden archive somewhere and was going to ask.

              Thanks again

Well do, I did everything and finally could reinstall both Civ3 and PTW but now I'm back to the beggining getting this txt saying that it can´t find a .flc named something like Arts/Units/WorkerModernTimes and so it exits.

The only good thing is that I don´t get the .dll missing file advise now.

                Any ideas?

In what order did you install, and what patches did you install?

After deleting the InstallShield hidden archives, I visited Windows update, already had all patches including DX9 runtime, after that I got the latest drivers for my motherboard, video and and sound card.
Then I installed Civ3 and started it so it could make the .ini file, I found that I had some trouble with the refresh rate, thats 'cause the monitor I had is broken and I'm using an older one for a while, so fixed the refresh to the minimum and Civ 3 started fine.
Then I installed PTW and I placed a save I had somewhere else before deleting all civ files, that save is one turn before the age change, so I opened PTW in that saved game, moved my turn and in the next I get Magnetism so I can start modern Age, there is where I get the unload error txt.
Went to the specified folder and found that WorkerModernTimes folder is incomplete having only the txt file with the little bolt in it, but no the other sound or .flc files, I checked other folders and found that Swordsman, F15 and like 5 other have the same missing files.
So loocking around I found very similar folders in the CIV 3 main folder, so I copied the missing files (they look alike) to the PTW ART/Units/...
I think it worked but now I get the same txtbox, but now it refers to settlerModernTimes.flc, placed in the same directory as before, but this time that folder does not exist, not even in the Civ 3 directory,
I'm thinking, should I create it and copy the files from let's say SettlerIndustrialTimes?

                    Thanks,

I had an error like this once... Try copying a directory that is REALLY similar to the directory that file was said to be in only with to the other name -- the EXACT name with regards to spacing. Also, only rename the file in the directory that has a space in it; leave the others.

                      It worked for me. :O

Yes, you can do that. The missing files are only art files and, unless you're modding, the settler pictures/movements should be the same for Modern and Industrial Times.

This is a very strange behaviour. Those files should be in the standard game package.
