From the look of the released screenshots: no they haven't been improved.
New graphics have been added for the new features (like Volcanoes and Swamps) of course, but it still looks the same as before.

P.S. We would like to have it for Conquest too,assuming Fireaxis won't forget the big picture of CIV allowing to continue after the end of scenarios,and above all allowing to play freely from 4000 B.C. to infinite,using new units.

Yeah, after modding your graphics into the game anytime I do a reinstall its amazing how cruddy the originals look.

I agree. I haven't played a game with the original terrain since the watercolor version came out
