1400x1050 build-in resolution

I just install CIVIII+PTW on a new laptop that uses ATI Mobility FIRE GL 9000 graphic card/64MB and a 1400x1050 build-in resolution. But some how, when I start the game, the picture quality is not even as good as on my other much older machines. The graphics are darker and cloudier. What can I do?

Did you put the keepres=1 in civ3.ini (otherwise Civ3 will automatically set your resolution to 1024x768) ?

I got a good quality here in 1600x1200 (ATI Radeon 9700).
