  • here's some of the units i've compiled for the OIF 1 scenario i'm working on right now.

i'm trying to give each of the US divisions some "special" unit (the Blackhawk i asked for is the 101st Airborne's unit, because they're more of an air assault unit now than an airborne one)

the first unit is my 3rd ID infantryman, it's a normal infantryman, with an M203.

the second is my 4th ID infantryman, he's got a SAW

third is a Marine, he's packing an M16A2 (i have yet to see a Marine over here with something else- i'm in Iraq right now, BTW)

fourth is a 101st Airborne trooper, who doubles as my 82nd Airborne guy, just with a different patch. His weapon of choice is an M4 carbine.

the Apache is from this thread, i shortened the tail just a bit, though, because it seemed a little too long. the Mig 21 just looks nice, i know there's about a zillion of them on this thread already, but i didn't remember seeing that one.

last is my attempts at shoulder patches. some of them (3rd ID, 101st AB) i'm pretty happy with, others (10th Mountain, 25th ID) are complete dog puckey, but i put them up there anyway.

for the record, everybody, the 24th ID (orange with a green spot shaped like the 25th ID patch) was disbanded after Desert Storm, and is no longer a US military unit.

none of the units are created by me, but the slight modifications i DID do myself. i'm just not that good at drawing units yet.

Not quite. Following Desert Storm the 24th Infantry division was 'reflagged' [ie, renammed] as the 3rd Infantry Division. As such, technically the 24th wasn't 'disbanded' (a term which is used to describe units which are completely broken up rather then just renamed).

The 24th Division was reactivated in 1999 to serve as the higher HQ for three independant National Guard Infantry Brigades and the division is still on the books as an 'integrated' unit. See: https://www.globalsecurity.org/milit.../army/24id.htm

By Saxon helmet, do you mean something like this?

                  • Yes, that one exactly! Lets ask Chris then! Thanks!

                    • Military Geek bloke comment:

That's the part of the Sutton Hoo find. Yes the helmet is Saxon (that of a king or very important chief), but bear in mind it's a very early Saxon helmet. In reality, it's a late Roman cavalry helmet with additional barbarian features like the applique moustache and nose and as such was probably made for the Saxon king by one of the ex-Roman fabricae.

Later classic Saxon Spangenhelm designs didn't have the cheek, neck and face pieces and were four-piece.

Not that any of that maters

Silly girl, the U.S. has no intention of invading Iran.

We're goin' after Syria and then maybe North Korea.
