I am having a problem with the Ultrastring theory advance. I downloaded the patch and installed it. I did this on both my fahter in laws computer and mine. The problem is that on his computer I can research the ultra string theory and on mine I can not.

I am fairly sure it is not becasue of the PC but I wanted to know why this might happen?

I even started a new game from scratch to test this and I am still stuck with not being able to research Ultra string theory. Is it possible I cannot research this untli my starship arrives at centaurus (It just launched)?

You can't research UT until arriving at AC.

There are other problems with UT, like not being able to research it at all, or being able to research it too early, but those can be solved by (a) having the patch, which you have; and/or (b) ensuring that you save the game in the correct directory.
