  • ToT Questions...HELP!

I am having a few problems, I have added in some extra items, both units and new tech discovers to the original game in ToT and I can not get ride of the alien icons and use the ones I want.

I have tried removing the pictures on the GIF and putting in the ones I want and the game STILL brings up the large plant thing when I buy the unit.

BUT in the encylopedia the pictures ARE as they should be out in the game, for example I took the seige engine from the fanstay game and added it in to the original, when a country get's the civ advance of Mathmatics they get both the seige tower and the catapult, but the seige tower shows up as the Chonee thing from the Extented game...but when you see the advancement telling you want you get now and all that the icon shows the seige tower not the flytrap thing...

HOW do I get the icons to show what I want??? Help!!!???

The problem is most likely with the TOT sprites. TOT will use the sprites and the images from Static.spr to create most of the graphics in the game. It will take them from the Units.bmp if it can't find the sprites.

Move all of the unit sprites from your Original directory to somewhere safe. Rename (or move) Static.spr (it's in your main TOT directory).

    This should solve your problem.

Okay I removed the file as you suggested and the ICONS changed until I moved the unit. Then it went back to the Flytrap creature as it was before.

I took the Spr file out of the ToT files completely and still no change.

          reinstall it !

"I have tried removing the pictures on the GIF" ToT use BMP files so if u want add or modify units edit units.bmp not units.gif

unsinstall ToT, reinstall, install patch 1.1, check all animated options ON, make a copy of the "ORIGINAL" repertory and in your "original" repertory delete ALL *.spr and *img.bmp files

then mods and scenarios should be ok and if u want to play an "original" game with units and terrains animations just use your "copy of original"

There's one more spr file you need to remove. I think it's called Resource.spr.

You need to delete the static.spr file in the Original folder, as well as move sprites 51 to 79 to the ExtendedOriginal Folder.

The Resource.spr file doesn't need to be moved or renamed.

Hint from John Possidente from Microprose in order to get the Units in the
                Units.bmp to appear properly :

"The pictures in units.bmp are used in the Civilopedia and the build selection menu,
but evidently nowhere else; as long as the game can find the animation files,
it uses the first frame of each as the icon for the unit. These animation files, one for each unit, provide the animations--movement, attack, dying, and so on. The first frame of each animation file is also used, in many places, as the static icon for the unit. So, you can change things in units.bmp, but never see them in the game, except in odd places like the production choice menu. "

"The static frame is first looked for in static.spr if there is no static.spr then it should look to the units.bmp file. To fix this, you must go out into the game directory and rename the unit##.spr file for every unit that you made a new image for. In addition to renaming the unit*.spr files so they are not used you will have to rename the static.spr file in each directory as well so your static frames fall back to the units.bmp file. That hides the unit animation, and the first-frame-static-image altogether so the game falls back on the units.bmp icon for the unit. That way, you can keep the existing units animated and still stick in your own."

                Cheers.
