  • Need help with 'Objective cities'

    Hi all,

Until now I've never used the 'city objective' function, and looking at downloaded scenarios and other web sites I've noticed that they are quite useful BUT I don't know exactly how you work them.

So if anybody has any info on them - or knows any sites that has a guide on them or something I would be grateful.

    Cheerz

What don't you understand? How to set a city as an objective? Use the cheat menu, edit city, toggle city objective. Don't use the three point objective, it doesn't work right.

At the end of the scenario the points for all objective cities is totaled and is compared to the victory requirements: decisive victory, marginal victory, stalemate, marginal defeat, decisive defeat.

            Freestyler,

The objective system was one of the earlier versions of scoring a scenario's success or otherwise, however it requires the player to capture selected cities (and sometimes Wonders) rather than raize them outright (which can sometimes be a pain). It is generally a very 'conquest oriented' scoring system.

Test of Time's flags-and-masks feature allows for much more complexity with game objectives, with a host of triggers beyond the taking of key cities (and sometimes Wonders), and I'd suggest that a more intricate game can be constructed using this approach instead. There's a few deign tips in the Scenario League and in the Cradle of Civilization sites that examine flags-and-masks.

Nonetheless, it's worthwhile to understand the objectives system.

              Wonders as Objectives?

Don't use the three point objective, it doesn't work right.
WK, does the "Count Wonders as Objectives" toggle work? When you do use wonders as objectives, can a player freely choose to start building one in any city?

Yes, each wonder counts as 1 objective point.

No, for some reason wonders will not show up in the build list when use wonders as objectives is on.

                  Re Building Wonders

Thanks Gothmog. I was afraid of that. Does that mean the BestowImprovement action in the macro language doesn't work for wonders if "Wonders as Objectives" is on?
