  • Catching up

I've been away from these fora for quite some time now, and i suppose i'll have some catching up to do.

I am gonna make a new scenario and i think i'll use the more advanced ToT engine. I'll be using the Civ complete ToT version. Will there be a compatability problem with other versions of ToT?

Has anybody found a solution to making a combat gfx for ToT?

Any ToT scenarios that i could use as a basis for ToT specific events?

    Thanks

Come on give us a clue... Is it the Punic Wars 2 maybe?
I can help on the graphics side, at least.

Its gonna be a Roman one.
Hopefully from the reign of Diocletian to the 12th-13th century.
Would like to expand the timeline but too many nations make their appearance later(the english f.e) for the Civ engine to handdle it.
The Romans and the Sassanids are to be the protagonists. The Slavs and Franks as secondary civs. Arabs, Turks as non playable hordes.

Hey Timoleon do you know anything about gfx utilities?
For the leader pics. I know they can be changed.

Yes, ToT scenarios are incompatible iwth other versions of Civ2. You can convert MGE and FW scenarios to ToT, but not the other way round. See Catfish's site for instructions.

No, it's not possible for 2D units. ToT was designed to use animated sprites, which include combat graphics. See Mercator's site for how to, as well as a program to use.

I'd recommend several of mine: Red October, Operation Market-Garden and Frederick the Great, as well as Catfish's War of the Ring and Boco's El Aurens. They all have complex, state of the art events. Also read William Keenan's excellent 2 tips on the Cradle of Civilization site.

No i know about MGE scenarios incompatability with ToT. I was reffereing to incompatability between different versions of ToT.

There's only one version of ToT. Just make sure you have the latest patch. Get it on Mecator's site, here: http://www.civgaming.net/mercator/files.html

There is another development that might be of interest . . . . Elys' Civ2Unlimited. McMonkey put me onto this when I was testing his Aeterna Civitas III (TOT). I am currently using it to playtest McGalleo's Red Front 1.4 TOT. It has performed flawlessly.

It's main advantage is that the units limit has been increased to 32,000. Whenever the units section in game is full it adds a block of additional unit space. Very neat.

You can find the download in Post #40 on

                  http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=205794

It is extremely easy to set up and use. Download the zip, extract the .exe and .dll files into the main TOT folder (no need to change their names) and create a shortcut to Civ2Unlimited.exe (on desktop or wherever).

Click on the shortcut to launch Civ2 Unlimited and check 'Max Units', 'Max Gold', 'Max Population', 'Test of Time 1.1 [Forced]' and 'Launch Game'. This will bring up the normal TOT game start. It won't overwrite any of your existing files.

                  A few words of caution:
One can use CIV2Unlimited to open an existing TOT save. However, an Unlimited save cannot be opened with TOT. Once you switch to Unlimited, you have to keep using it to play the scen or the vanilla game.

Also, from what I can tell, you cannot start a vanilla game using Unlimited. However, if you start a vanilla game with regular TOT, you can always switch to Unlimited by using it to open a save.

I concur. Civ2Unlimited is an excellent utility and has had a hugely positive effect on the multiplayer games at Civ Webring which often exceed the maximum units limit. Congratulations to Elys! Its a shame there seems to be no way to increase the 255 cities limit or the number of playable Civs, but that may been a blessing in disguise as I would probably be building even more elaborate and unplayable scenarios

What happened to that petition about releasing the Civ2 code?

Unfortunately the code appears to have been lost somewhere along the line when the game wrights were being passed between the various owners. Sounds like it was stored on some ancient PC which probably ended up being junked or wiped and that's that. Sad really
