You're running Civ2 in a 64-bit environment, right? You've got this problem? Mercator and Harry Tuttle aren't running Civ2 in a 64-bit environment, they're running it in 32-bit Windows XP mode. If you don't have Windows XP Mode or similar virtualisation, get MastermindX's patcher from the link posted earlier in the thread.

Edit: Briefly tested ToT on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 yesterday. Firstly, I tried it in the 64-bit environment using Timbatron’s CPU-fixed executable, patched with MastermindX’s 64-bit compatibility fix. It seemed to run fine. Again, I needed to register the Indeo 5 codec to get video. This was done by typing “regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ir50_32.dll” in the Search Box in the Start Menu. I also installed ToT in Windows XP Mode. Timbatron’s CPU fix was used. This installation seemed to work OK as well, if not a little sluggish compared to the previous.

I´ve also installed Windows 7 on my computer yesterday. ToT works very fine without any problems. I´m using the 32bit version.

Like I said in your thread in the Civ2 General forum, have you installed in Windows XP mode?

Not if he doesn't have Windows 7 Professional or higher.

BTW, if you're running vanilla Civ2 or FW (16-bit), then you're definitely going to require some kind of virtualisation software, whether it be Windows XP Mode, VMware or VirtualBox. For MGE or ToT (32-bit), you should be able to get away with MastermindX's 64-bit compatibility patcher.

He's not talking about compatibility modes, he's talking about Windows XP Mode.

Grandpa, have you patched the games yet? Have you tried copying the files from your old civ directory into your Win XP virtual desktop?

Unfortunatley, I have Windows 7 Home 64 bit, so I would have to purchase Win7 Professional

You should read the thread more carefully.

Did you see this bit? If you're playing MGE or ToT, there's a good chance you don't need any virtualisation software; MastermindX's patcher looks like a good option (needs testing). If you want to run 16-bit versions of Civ2, then you're going to have to look at Windows Virtual PC (minus Windows XP Mode), VMware or VirtualBox, all of which will require a spare Windows XP licence.

*cough* Virtual PC. A virtual desktop is something else.
