Very nice work, as usual, Curt!

...never thought to make a scenario based on Turtledove's "Lost Legion" and/or "Videssos" cycles ? :-)
"Dilexi iustitiam, odivi iniquitatem, propterea morior in exilio" [PAPA GREGORIUS VII +1085] - ("He amado la justicia, he odiado la iniquidad, por eso muero en exilio") - ("I loved justice, I hated unfairness, that's why I die in exile") - (J'ai aimé la justice, j'ai détesté l'iniquité, c'est pourquoi je meurs en exil") - ("Ich liebte Gerechtigkeit und hasste Ungerechtigkeit, deshalb sterbe ich im Exil")

          Rather!

I have just made the lastest rebalance after a full 20 years (in game terms!) as the Khaarov.

The Ancients were a little too powerful early on, and some hero units were unbalanced.
But now with some good old trial and error, I have re-structured the events to make
the AI colonies get up and running before this kind of thing below erupts...l

That gate opened about 2 turns back in my latest game (as the Kanegs)

Guess whose empire is closest to this purple orgy of evil...

Got a far more balanced game going on now! I think that I am getting close to where I want BF5 to be!

If anyone is playtesting - Recommend this new update! = BF5_Thunder1g.zip

The units are more fairly balanced, and the ancients are unleashed later...
Giving a better change of a good fight when you are ready...They are still hardcore!

Playing as the Kaneg right now, and having a good time...Being able to steal and bribe
is a part of the story world (everyone in Aphorik is a bugger) and makes for some really
weird and wonderful army groups...Having varied mercenaries and spies is vital!

            PS
New zip is in the 2nd post on the this thread!

              oh,
              I wasn't meaning that...
but, thanks for info, i didn't know "Lost legion" based on Jacques Martin's comics. Sounds fun!

I mean the following Turtledove cycle:

I think your scenario has interesting things also for something about Videssos... starting from roman-style units and magic elements...
"Dilexi iustitiam, odivi iniquitatem, propterea morior in exilio" [PAPA GREGORIUS VII +1085] - ("He amado la justicia, he odiado la iniquidad, por eso muero en exilio") - ("I loved justice, I hated unfairness, that's why I die in exile") - (J'ai aimé la justice, j'ai détesté l'iniquité, c'est pourquoi je meurs en exil") - ("Ich liebte Gerechtigkeit und hasste Ungerechtigkeit, deshalb sterbe ich im Exil")

Have you ever read the "Oath of Empire" series? It has Romans and fantasy elements too.

                A good read!

Oh, and on Monday, I'll be posting up a major new update, asI noticed some major issues.

One being that when Hired Cannon (Gunpowder) is researched, it prevents half the units being built.

But it is fixed now. I have also rebalanced the units, especially the heroes.

I have designed things in a way that you need all four hero units to take out the Ancient capital.

But what a challenge! Without giving to much away, it is the ultimate battle to beat them!

                    Something more...

Played some rounds as the Skeer. Were able to find Goldfists hideout,
and managed to beat the unit in it's castle but 'alas, despite message he did not appear in any of my cities.

Could you please check on that.

That is now fixed, Hans! I realised that you cannot spawn a unit on a square where an
enemy unit was defeated. I have him now appearing in one of the neighbouring squares.

I am sure now that all the quests work as intended. As I have uncovered them all in my
current test game! I have completed the scenario and still I have not got to the end of
the tech tree or kickstarted my colony's war of independence! (oops spoiler!)

I have put a new zip up on the 2nd post "BF5_Thunder1h.zip", and this fixes dozens
of minor issue and a few larger ones. Also rebalances the units fully. So give it a try!

I downloaded this scenario and give it a try. It's a real pleasure to play it. I'm in the eight year and I'm waiting for all the events will appear. As usual this bitterfrost scenario will become a classic for me.

I don't know if it's what you want these units do, but the pirates ships stay in Boneport. They don't move across the oceans.

Since I captured Boneport, the events spawns many pirates ships. I think there are too many of these spawned units. They make the game too much easy for the human player. I'm in year 14 and I have 24 pirates ships.
                          You should change this event.

                            Cheers forthe feedback, MacGalleo!

I noticed the pirate vessels seem to stay at port - Not sure what to do, as it is an CIV2 AI thing...

I could ditch the pirate ship events, and just have Boneport give a one-time payout?

I am thinking of making the Ancients a "democracy" (renamed) so their cities cannot be bribed.

I am sort of OK with the foe cities (and evil units within) being bribed. These guys might join you
as they hate Zexxa anyway. I have been tweaking unit values of some units and will upload soon.

                              PS
Having your own group of Dark Reavers can be useful when the battle for the island is in full swing...

Not sure if anyone knows, but being a democracy does not affect AI war-mongering?

(Most units are NONE, so happiness won't impact the Ancients too much...)
