  • Need help finding a scenario

I recently found my copy of Civ2 while cleaning out the house. I've been playing it a bit and I remembered my all-time favourite scenario from way back. It was a world war two scenario that started in 1939. It was based in Europe and had custom graphics and units. There was no negotiation allowed, and there were events for the fall of Paris, and also Alexandria which caused the Spanish to enter the war on the side of the Axis if I recall correctly.

I'm not sure how much more information I can provide, but if anybody could help me find it I'd appreciate it greatly. Civfanatics doesn't seem to have it and I'm having real trouble browsing the scenarios and modpacks hosted on this site. It won't list anything beyond the A's.

    Can you be more specific?

In what year when did you first play this scen?
Did the scen deal with only Europe or the whole world - US and Japan?
I assume that Spain was a playable scen. There are very few scens where it is.
Any other details that you can recall?

Like I said, it was based in Europe. The map also showed north africa and went out about as far as the urals, but I dont believe it was the same map as the standard ww2 scenario

Not sure when I played this scenario. It's been so long, I really couldn't tell you.

The playable civs were: Allies (covering Britain, Egypt, gibraltar, malta, etc.), Axis (Germany, austria, czechoslovakia, italy, libya), Soviets(standard), French (france and french north africa) Neutrals (Netherlands, Denmarka nd Norway, Hungary etc.) and "Axis Allies" or "Minor Axis" or something, which was Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, maybe Yugoslavia. Also there may have been Turkey.

Allies were able to create Spitfires and Lancaster bombers, Axis had ME109s and Stukas and whatnot. At the beginning of the scenario Poland and Baltic states are held by barbarians, Axis have troops surrounding Polish cities and take them, taking warsaw triggers war with allies. Russians conquer baltic states during their first turn.

Franco-german border is lined with french fortress units signifying the maginot line. Taking Paris deletes these units and spawns some axis tanks to take over french north africa.

Like I said, there's an event when the Axis take Alexandria that the axis allies declare war on the allies. Another one is Operation Torch where allied shermans are spawned to take back french north africa.

Not sure what other information i can give. Feel free to ask more questions though.

It sounds like the unfinished Lebensraum 1939 by FMK. Though taking Amiens disbanded the Maginot Line.. So I guess that's not it.

Nah that's not it. I think it may have been one of John Petroski's? Didn't he do Anstieg? I could be wrong but I think this is the one he did before Ansteig. But I'm relying on memories from 10 years ago. Like I said I'd love to search the scenarios on this site but they wont list properly for me.

Petroski's ANSTEIG is a major reworking of his earlier scen THE NEW GERMANY.

            From John Petroski's ANSTEIG Readme:

For those of you familiar with my previous scenario “The New Germany”, you will be glad to here that this scenario is basically a huge remodeling of it. Even though “The New Germany” got fairly high reviews from Scenario League and Plate-Head’s site, upon further personal playtesting and reading on the subject of WW2, I found that my scenario was much too inaccurate for my own liking. Thus, I have decided to divert my efforts to remaking this scenario, and hopefully, to establish itself as one of the best, if not the best WW2 Europe scenario available on the net (and with competition like Mike Jeszenka’s Third Reich and Harlan Thompson’s WW2 scenario it will be tough).

I don't have TNG, but in ANSTEIG the capture of Alexandria by the Axis does cause Spain to declare war on the Allies. Also, some of the Maginot Line forts are homed to Paris.

I can't find TNG in any scen collection. ANSTEIG is available from the CFC Downloads Collection. If you cannot get at it, please PM me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail the zip to you.

Hmmm it must be The New Germany. As much as I like Ansteig, I found that it was a far more "serious" style scenario, while I found TNG a lot more "fun". I have Ansteig, so thanks very much for the offer. But hopefully someone can track down The New Germany. Now that I know the name I'll have a better look around for it but if anyone has it to send me I'd appreciate it too. Email is rhodz69 AT hotmail.com.

I'd also like to thank you guys for being so helpful. Really appreciate it

On of my first embarrassing attempts at a scenario was actually basically a rework of Ansteig. It's called Lebensraum (not to be mistaken with FMK's 1939, which was 'released' after mine) and can be found at Civfanatics.
