  • Jamestout's Crusades update

Jamestout has just released an updated version of his Crusades scenario. Download here: http://sleague.apolyton.net/index.ph...=Crusades_1100

As well as some improvements to gameplay there is an excellent new set of cities and some new units. Here are some taster screenshots:

    Looks lovely

Unfortunately I don't think civ2 works on my new-fangled Vista pc, so I can't play it.

Nice! Updates for good scenarios are always welcome.

Why are so many people having problems with civ2 and Vista? I never experienced any problems (except for the .bat-files, which was easily solved).

I haven't had major problems apart from occasionally getting a "Wave out error" to do with the sounds. This is fixed by shutting down CivII with Task Manager and re-loading the game.

What problems are you having Gareth, is it to do with the OTT security settings? If that is the problem there is a way of setting them to a reasonable level that will allow CivII to run.

One can pick up an adequate XP PC for $25-50 at the Salvation Army or equivalent thrift shop and dedicate it to CIV II as a game machine.

I still have my old xp machine, but it's packed away for lack of space I guess.

I think McM is on the right track. Been googling vista problems and the root cause always seems to be the same: it is overly restrictive with its security settings. I have a successful work-around now, which basically entails installing as admin and removing the pesky security settings.

I know a lot of people hate Vista, but other than its overly zealous security settings (which can be switched off) and its inability to run some older games (No Combat Mission ) it has been a really stable and reliable operating system for me over the past year or so now. I just hope CivII will continue to work on the newest Microsoft OS which I think is in the pipeline!

I've had Vista for a year and a half now and I never had any problems with either ToT or Mge...
