Sounds like we will be OK, as long as we are still considered "living flesh"! Sounds like the OT guys are the ones most concerned but everything changes eventually and the new owners seem interested in increasing traffic and broadening Apolyton's scope which should be a good thing IMHO

Looks like it will be the status quo. I doubt the new owners will want to reduce traffic by eliminating an active forum.

Of course, we've had some real geniuses call for this forums closure.

I would DL as much as you can just in case.

Perhaps someone should start making an archive, just in case?

That may be a good idea, bc1871.

Since I'm the only one who's been around since (almost) the beginning, I'd like to share my somewhat foggy recollections of stories handed down to me by the Old Ones.

Scenario League is an independent site, controlled by its' (active) members. It's really a collective enterprise hosted by Apolyton. It started as a separate site, called the "Civilization Artificers Guild". By agreement, it was incorporated into 'Poly, but with an agreement that it retain it's autonomy. Since joining 'Poly, it's always had it's own site - now the Scenario League wiki. Most of the earlier site can still be found via links to the wiki site.

Why is this important? Because there's a huge shakeup with our host, and lots of uncertainty as a result. There are a couple of new "owners", and we don't really know what their plans are. And it gets more complicated. Dan Quick is not only leaving, he's taking others with him, and setting up a new site which will host his Polycasts.

Not only that (and perhaps one of the reasons) is that site traffic on Apolyton has been nosediving for a while. And that reduces ad revenue, needed to support the site and pay for the server holding the massive archive built up over the years. That includes our site, all the scenario collections and our forum and it's archive.

I think we need to have a discussion with the new owners. What shall we say?

I think we need to hear their plans before we start to panic (I'm not suggesting your panicking Tech, just in general!). Would one of the moderators be able to set up a discussion thread where the new owners can let us know their plans, if any, for the Scenario League and where we can ask questions.

I guess they will be quite busy right now and the Scenario League is a fairly small section of the site, but I think we can demonstrate that there is still a lot of interest in this old classic and we can still generate a decent amount of traffic.

              EDIT:
An archive would definitely be a wise precaution. I am certainly willing to help with that.

I think Brian's right and we need to a) nominate a spokesperson and b) agree a number of required assurances which we can ask the new owners to give (or not I guess, as is their prerogative!)

Tech makes a wonderful advocate, don't you think - I nominate him as our intermediary if he's willing.

Suggestions for, for want of a better word, our 'demands':

                - Assurance that maintainance of the SL site be integral to their plans.

                - Assurance that this forum be maintained in any future incarnation of the site

If the new guys can't accede to these requests we need a plan b in terms of a new host I guess. Anybody know anything about websites

If Techumseh, is unable to fill the role of "Scenario League" advocate, then I would also nominate Fairline(after all, he is one of the major sources of all new Civ2 content.).

Or, if the worst does come, and please don't have me tarred and feathered for this comment, we could always go an annex the forums over at CFC....

I'm prepared to be the envoy, but I'd like a lot more in the way of direction, and mandate. This is a fairly serious development. Are there only 4 members left who have an active interest?

I still support the league even though i haven't been active in 6 years.

It would be a shame to see it gone, Civ 2 is still a fun game with scenarios.

Give it a little time Tech. It's finals and graduation week, plus summer is coming for us older folk. I can start sending out PMs if you'd like to get some email notices on some eyeballs.

I think we just need am idea of New Owner intentions right now to start a dialogue.
