I have been trying to no avail to get my scenarios(downloaded ones) to work. Some say you need Civ 2 Gold. I downloaded Multiplayer Gold Edition and everything works fine on it you can get the scenarios that come with it to work great but when I try to begin a downloaded scenario on main menu for Civ 2 all it says is" Failed to open not a saved game" Can anyone help me here or better yet since I am new to these downloads walk me through one step by step. My OS is Windows XP. Thank You John Boc

Sorry to hear you are having problems.
Let's start by clearing up some of your wording. I stumbled over the word downloaded as in "I downloaded Multiplayer Gold Edition". In my memory there was no download for the official MGE. You had to buy it. If you are referring to an unofficial 'crack', that may be your problem.
If you bought MGE, was it in the original wrap/box with all the highly suspect manuals?? I ask this because the particular dialog box you mentioned is what comes up in Civ2 Classic when you try to load a MGE save. Are you sure you have MGE?? You can check by opening a save (one that works) and clicking 'Game' --> 'Game Options'...the top of the bar tells you the game version.
If you could clear up those terms maybe we can go from there.
Monkso long and thanks for all the fish

There is a download that turns Fantastic Worlds to MGE. It's located on Civfanatics.
MGE did not come with scenarios but FW did.
Only scenarios made for MGE will work with MGE. Those made for FW will not work.
See if you have a compatibility problem. If not, I suggest reinstalling civ 2, then FW, then the MGE crack, then unzipping an MGE scenario in the scenario folder.
