  • Civ 2 for OSX

New to this forum, apologies if this question has been asked before. I have had a search with no success.

Is there any way I can run Civ2 on OS 10.5, or on an intel without partitioning my hard drive or attaching an external hard drive?

Should add my tech ability is about 5 out of 10; can do quite a bit of stuff but not ultra-complicated.

    Thanks
    Charles

Ooooh, don't know if that can be done...
I, myself, just made a PC side for my Mac and run Civ 2 on that. You also might try Virtual PC or something.

Sorry if this doesn't help. Microprose went under before OSX came about, I think, but if you can simulate PC stuff, then it should work.

      civ 2 on other platforms

Good luck getting civ2 to run on any platform besides some form of win32.
I haven't tried myself, but I hear it won't even run on Vista (no great loss there, though).
I would love to be able to run it on linux under wine or something like it, or on mac os, but it is probably not in the cards. Better hold on to a copy of Windows XP for all these vintage games. Of course there's always freeciv...

CivII Multiplayer Gold edition and Test of Time both work fine on Vista, for me anyway. I'm afraid I don't know about any of the other OS.

          Hi Charles,

You can find a (somewhat) OS X compatible build of Civ II (Gold MPE) here. It is a PPC only build, but it should run under "Rosetta".

The biggest problem is going to be getting the Civ II data files installed. The Civ II installer is an OS 9 application, and "Classic" isn't supported in 10.5. If you don't already have Civ II installed, this is a potentially insurmountable problem.
