  • Scenario help.

I´m working on a scenario for Civ2, and I´m trying to make some buildings indestrucyible. Is this possible?
I mean to make them so they cannot be sold and do not get destoyed when the city is taken. I cannot seem to find anything that affects this in the editor menus.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hm, I don´t think that this is possible. You can only give a city an improvement and then disable the tech (no/no) which is neccessary for the building.

civ2units is right I think. Though perhaps you could use an event to build certain improvements (like city walls) in cities whenever they are captured

You can somewhat decrease the odds of an improvement being lost to capture by giving the city lots of useless improvements with no upkeep cost (e.g. giving a fundamentalist government in a scenario with no diplos or air units a Courthouse, Police Station and SAM Battery). Obviously this has many limitations and won't work for many scenarios, plus it's nothing like a guarantee, but if the computer has other, worthless targets to delete it might leave the ones you want alone.

As for not selling...can you give an improvement a build cost of zero, so that there's no point in selling it? I've never tried. It might help if you tell the folks here your specific situation. The trick you have in mind might not be workable, but a reasonable simulation could be achieved by the creative minds we've got here.

Putting the building cost to zero does make selling it completely pointless, and it seems I´ll have to settle for that approach.
By the way, I´ve always been under the impression that some buildings are always lost when a city is taken, is that also hard-coded? Or am I just imagining things?

There seem to be different groupings of improvements that are lost, selected randomly when the city falls.

City improvements fall into one of three groups if a city is captured:

                The following never survive:

                Palace
                Temple
                Courthouse
                Cathedral
                SAM Missile Battery

Surviving improvements come from either Group A or Group B and all improvements in a group will survive. Survivors never include some from A and some from B.

                GROUP A
                MarketPlace
                Granary
                Aqueduct
                Mass Transit
                Factory
                SDI Defense
                Power Plant
                Nuclear Plant
                Sewer System
                Superhighways
                Solar Plant
                Offshore Platform
                Police Station

                GROUP B
                Barracks
                Library
                City Walls
                Bank
                University
                Colosseum
                Manufacturing Plant
                Recycling Center
                Stock Exchange
                Supermarket
                Research Lab
                Coastal Fortress
                Harbor
                Airbase
                Naval Base

I have no idea if there is a 50/50 chance of A or B or whether there is some modifier.

                  Interesting post, Agricola.

Anyway, You can decrease the odds of the improvement being lost in a particular city by loosing it to the civ that may capture it in the future, and then taking it back for the right civ. That way, this city will be "liberated" (You can change this word in the text files), and will not loose improvements.

Also, You can make selling ALL OF THE improvements impossible by modifying text files, but that has obvious disadvantages and won't save the improvement when captured.
