  • Oceanic/Aerial partisans?

    If a civ has all the partisan techs (Gue, Gun, Com, etc.), owns a city completely surrounded by water, and that city is taken by an enemy . . .

    1.) Will the partisans simply not appear if there are no land tiles available?

    2.) What happens if you make the partisans Air and/or sea units? Do they appear then?

    Anyone ever tried this?

    Here is what happens . . .

    situation; single land tile in the ocean. two nearby land tiles close enough to be in the city radius. city on the single land tile, owned by civ w/comm & gunpowder and gue. First of all it has to be big enough. Once you hit size 7, partisans might appear on nearby land tiles when the city is taken. The city had 1 ground unit defender. The attackers had 1 dreadnought (20a/20d/1mv), 1 transport, and 1 ground unit. The dreadnought attacks, the ground unit occupies, and here's what happened;

    Partisans, no matter what their role, do not appear anywhere but on land tiles.

    Air partisans will fortify and hold, no matter what role, no matter what range.

    but naval partisans will move off the land tiles they appeared on into the ocean. And if given attack factors and the naval superiority role, (and, in this case, the destroyed-after-attacking) will move and attack land and naval targets. After playing with this, I can also say that the AI KNOWS whether it has a chance of destroying an enemy while using a unit like this. The naval partisans came and attacked the seized city, they attacked the transport, but wouldn't attack the dreadnought no mater how often they were next to it. The naval partisans had 8a/1d/2mv. There's a conditional statement there somewhere about relative strengths and whether or not to attack.

    McMonk, I'm wondering if giving Pirates/Storms-that-don't-seem-to-attack-anything the Destroyed-after-attacking flag might make them attack.
