For all of his years of masterful work, I wanted to award Curt Sibling with this fitting scenario tribute; a Test of Time edition of the classic Soviet Steel!

Since that time, I've been revelling in his Dictator, Soviet Steel, and Vendetta series. This scenario alone is not nearly enough compensation for the hours upon hours that I've spent conquering the world.

I only hope that my attempt at a sequel will come close to doing his original series justice.

    --------------------------------------------------

    The year is 1949.

The alliance between the Western allies and the Soviet Union has all but been destroyed by Stalin's push for power over the occupied territories of Eastern Europe.

To counter this thread, the Allied command under newly-elected U.S. President MacArthur has declared a need for an offensive footing in Europe and the Far East. Subsequently, the nations of Germany and Japan are swiftly "rehabilitated" and given military aid.

Many great generals of the Wehrmacht and admirals of the Imperial Japanese Navy return to their posts, this time under a civilian command closely under MacArthur's keen eye.

In the East, Stalin continues to build his war machine with the spoils taken from Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. With the exception of Titoist Yugoslavia, all of Eastern Europe is under Stalin's iron fist.

After the war, the United Kingdom continues to fight on in preserving its imperial glory, but parts of the empire are slowly drifting away from London; India is partitioned between a British-occupied Pakistan and a neutral Hindu nationalist state. Egypt's King Farouk is an ally of Britain, but holds the reigns over all of Cairo and Alexandria. Despite Prime Minister Churchill's efforts, the best years of the British Empire may be behind her.

The "white" nations of the Commonwealth form an alliance independent of Britain's political controls; Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Rhodesia quickly sign a joint declaration of collective security. The Afrikaners and Québécois are pacified when the treaty is also signed in Afrikaans and French.

A resurgent Germany, while divided and damaged from the war, calls a conference on collective security in Western Europe. The major powers of continental Europe, Germany, France, and Italy all agree to a unified military command based in the "international zone" in Strasbourg.

Japan, still ailing from the war, is given a constitution handwritten (in English) by Douglas MacArthur and political independence is reestablished under the banner of civilian control of both the government and the army.

While centuries ago, China was a great power. Today, China stands at a crossroads; victorious over Japan, does China rebuild its damaged infrastructure or finally seek to wipe the communist menace off the face of the earth?

Will the hammer and sickle fly over the White House?
Will Germany and her new allies finally march into Red Square?
What will become of this world?

    The choice is yours!

        EDIT:

I am humbled, old chap! This is amazing stuff -

I love the setting - Old Dugout Doug would have
been a truly great president - As would Patton!

I'm so honoured that you chose one of my old works
to recreate - I am sure you will create a new classic!

I hope it's ok to ask this here, but, where can I find the original Soviet Steel scenarios? I realy liked them, but I can't find them again.

It sounds interesting and of course gameplay trumps "realism" at all points- but why in your game world would Italy not fall to communism? Because they're afraid of the red menace? I recall Italy was in dire danger of going communist in the 1940s... for that matter Japan was to some degree as well- but you account for that with McArthur's leadership.

                        Otherwise, it sounds interesting!
