Call To Power 2 Cradle 3+ mod in progress: https://apolyton.net/forum/other-games/call-to-power-2/ctp2-creation/9437883-making-cradle-3-fully-compatible-with-the-apolyton-edition
I play ToT! In fact, I play it exclusively as far as Civ2 is concerned. So far, though, I'm only using it as a "better Civ2", which means I've only used the original game. I have both MGE and ToT, but I'm new to Civ, so I haven't yet explored the sci-fi or fantasy games, or even the extended original. After using both MGE and ToT, though, I much prefer the look of ToT overall.
I just got ToT as a matter of fact. I like the original civ2 better though
ToT seems to just generally run slow even with the animations off. I also dont like the "dark" look of everything and some of the layouts, kinda hurt my eyes .
Positive note the midgard and sci-fi fantasy scenarios seem fun to me
I've just gotten my copy and have played a bit on the normal game. So far I haven't seen anything that has convinced me this is much better than Civ2 FWorlds.
I don't really prefer either. ToT has the multi-maps and the three new play modes (extended Original, Scifi, Fantasy). But I like the fact that (nearly) all pre-MGE scenarios are compatible with MGE Granted, I think the ToT Midgard is better than MGE's version... but that's just me
I just got ToT recently for something like $5.00. I think MGE is better. MGE gives you a lot more for your money. (Though I'm not complaining about what I paid for ToT.) I bought ToT because I heard that I could play Civ II with updated graphics. Well, I am kinda disappointed. The graphics are really dark and everything seems blurry. The graphics in the original weren't too Earth shattering but at least you could easily identify things and the resolution was crisp. Does anyone else find the graphics in ToT to be blurry?
Yes I also hate the normal ToT gfx, especially the dark terrains Fortunately you can replace them with better gfx, the Cradle of Civilization website at http://civ.cx/ has, for instance nice alternative gfx for ToT...
Thanks to you Bebro. So i am downloading, in The Cradle of Civilization, into the "Cedars of Lebanon" page, the file named cf_orig_mod.zip (Link : The Return to Cmlassic Mode :
Test of Time Modpack
New graphics for the "Original" and Extended Original Game
Version 1.2 by Gothmog
EMAIL: cfritz@angelfire.com
HOMEPAGE: members.xoom.com/fambans/index.html
Description. This modpack contains replacement graphics for the units
and terrain for those of you who find the test of time graphics too dark
or too fuzzy. Units are taken mostly from the Classic Civilization II game.
Installation.
1. Before installation, decide which files you would like to replace. You
can use all or just some of the files. You ought to choose the terrain
files as a set. The files contained in this modpack are
People.bmp, Terrain1.bmp, Terrain2.bmp, Terrain3.bmp, Terrain4.bmp,
Units.bmp
2. In case you might change your mind about this modpack, move these files
from the Test of Time "Original" and "ExtendedOriginal" directories
to a safe place:
People.bmp, Terrain1.bmp, Terrain2.bmp, Terrain3.bmp, Terrain4.bmp
Units.bmp depending on which ones you wish to replace.
3. If you choose to replace units.bmp, also move the static.spr file
from the Test of Time "Original" directory to a safe place. You must
turn off animation to use the replacement graphics.
Static.spr contains images for four different facings of the Test
of Time units. If you don't get it out the directory, you won't see
the replacement units. Test of time will run just fine without it.
4. Unzip the files you want to replace into the Test of Time
"Original" or "Extended Original" Directories. The replacement files
are about 50% larger than the old files due to the fact that I don't
have a graphics editor that can save these as 16 bit graphics.
I don't like ToT graohics either.
Actually, I prefer not Civ2 but Civ1 graphics (I still hate that isometric view, I can't see what it gives except mistakes when giving orders rapidly). Is there anyone who did a way to have the old civ1 look rendered on civ2 (because I really like a better tech tree, units and marvels)?

I love my ToT. I play extended, sci-fi, and fantsay in round-robin fashion along with SMAC, MoO2, and original Civ2 (I miss the council).
ToT really shines in fantasy, where you are treated (subjected) to the strategic possibilities that access to four stacked maps provide--like using sorcerers based on a kraken in the undersea to attack a cloud city with impunity. My only complaint there is that the AI is unable to recognize those possibilities--in the above example, I've yet to see an AI cloud city use its sorcerers to counterattack a submerged kraken.
edit: fixed stuff.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.
I also like TOT over MGE due to the multi map capability. I don't miss the council, but I would have liked the throne room on TOT. I tend to play both Extended Orig and Fantasy (and also Time Threat Paradox ). Both games are great, so hears to hoping the Civ 3 will not disappoint when it is released.
