  • Barbarian Wrath . . . after the fact

Is it possible to hexedit an existing scenario, modifying its barbarian setting to Barbarian Wrath?

    If so . . .

I'd like to get that done to one I have laying around.

Yes. Please either attach the .scn file to a post or see your PM for my e-mail address.

There is nothing in my e-mail in-basket or junk, 11 hours after you e-mailed.

Perhaps an attachment to a post might be more certain.

I emailed it. No idea why it didn't get there.

Not sure if ACS has the right stuff to attach it here.

            Still nothing in my e-mail.

Your attachment works fine, .scn is a valid suffix for Poly attachments.

The edited .scn file is attached.

Thanks John. If the scen works the way I hope, with the wrath thing. . .

1.) Eliminate the Huns as a player civ ... which means a more intricate treatment of Germania, with the Lombards as a player civ. Probably.

2.) Create a sense of urgency. Big maps pose problems. Limited event space means very few barb units can be created SIMULTANEOUSLY. I can make the barbs big and dangerous, but on a big map they're more likely to wander around aimlessly rather than do anything eventful or interesting. I have no idea how many barbs will be created (or where, more importantly), but IF they'll appear in the right places, it'd be good.

3.) This might necessitate a fuller treatment of "urban" Gaul and Hispania.

4.) Might free up some event space if I'm not required to stick in a bunch of random-barb-creation events to make the thing interesting.

Whoever downloaded the thing prior to my arrival. . . :rolleyes

I almost did. Maybe a Dutchman with hexing curiosity.

You two should stop being so suspicious. I bet you see a conspiracy behind everything.

I've now played it a few times, into the 30-something turns. Saw the first pirate. Time to do some slot-switching. Have NOT yet seen the wrath thing appear, but then I don't test with a total reveal map. Any idea when this thing should happen? I've seen the screen shots. Looks good. 65 units.

                    Further improvements to come.

I'll post updates in this thread.

65 turns in, it occurred. 95 units, far east of the map. I wonder when the Kushans first hit the Sassanians?

Unexpected barbarian troubles. They appeared in unexpected slots. Apparently, Keenan's paper is correct, but doesn't indicate that, if the tech sequence is broken, later techs that effect barb slot changes don't work. Except for riflemen.

There's then an interaction between techs that limit or create barb change or appearance, those techs OTHER effects (Guerilla warfare, gunpowder, and Communism are good examples), and sound slots (now) that have to be addressed.

Couldn't get this one to work. Barbs won't appear in the right places, but, more importantly . . . post hexedit, the pirates won't move. Their ships will move, but the ground units that appear go to sleep and won't move with the ships, staying out in the middle of the ocean. I've changed roles around, but nothing seems to help.

Sadly, looks like this one just won't work. but thanks.

I'll keep it, especially the files, and consider other maps.

The thing is good, and works, it's just that the map is too big and has too much space in the wrong areas for the barbs to work well.
