I've been a CIV player since the original game and progressed to CIV II and then bought TOT when it first came out. One of the reasons I bought TOT was for the multi-player abilities. For various reasons (family, job, etc..) I haven't explored this option until recently. It seems TOT is not the best choice for MP games among other CIVers. Most of the games seem to be initiated for MPG or CTP. Is there an active community of players for TOT? If so, where are they hiding? GameLeague doesn't seem to encourage TOT (unless I am misreading) and I checked out Games.com and the dam* thing keeps freezing when it loads. Any pointers in the right direction will be gratly appreciated.

Sorry I don't know where to go either, although I would love to play. Do you have to play ToT through a third party? or can you use an IP to play?
Oh, and there is an "edit post" function on these forums. If you look on the line where it says the time that you posted, you'll notice a pencil and paper icon, click on that and you can edit your post (spelling and such).

Microsoft's gaming zone (www.zone.com) hosts ToT...
Sadly, they no longer do.
See my previous post on the subject for more info.

Several of us other Civ MPG players would like to get some time of our investment in this latest & greatest version of Civ.
If U R serious, i'm going over to either bump up an old T of T thread we had over in MultiPlayer or start a new 1 so we CAN get some MP action going.
Come over there & respond if U R serious about MP that is the place to make contact.

I got an idea: I think ToT can run directly through IP's, if I'm correct. If so, i think i know how to set something up.
1. Get a free website carrier like GeoCities or Angelfire and make a ToT site with a message board or chat room
2. Register a room for mIRC to play in via IP, taking out any annoying middle-man type servers. I know that the Undernet server, though it has been under attack lately, but gotten better, will give rooms for free if there is a certain number of occupants during a certain time period (A week i think).
3. Maybe start a member based type thing out of the site, have competitions or something.
4. Just play games through IP
That would get rid of annoying servers like the zone was and games.com definatly now is.-Variety is the spice of life, but it gives me indegestion-

Why don't we all just meet in the GameSpy Arcade room for ToT?
They also got a room for regular Civ2MPG.
I don't know why I didn't think of mentioning GameSpy as an option for playing online Civ2 in my earlier posts.
You will need to download the GameSpy Arcade engine, but you wont regret it.
EDIT: Don't be alarmed by the 20$ price tag for the full version. You don't need to register for the full version to utilize GameSpy for Civ2MPG or ToT.

Finding opponents Note: BloomIII & others; ICQ is the easiest & best way to find, chat, & PLAY any of the Civ games.
U DO NOT need a 3rd party inbetween players (& host).
Those places are good to make initial contact with players, but as soon as U do... share ICQ #'s & get out of the "services" & connect direct.
As U build your list of ICQ's from there & here (see Profiles if U don't recall), U will generally be able to find higher quality connect speeds & opponents.
================================================
After doing a # of games since starting this thread, have come to some conclusions (along with most of the other players involved)...
NOTE to ALL Test of Timers:
If we can't find a way to play the newest version with fixes & rationalization of some of out-of-balance prob's... the Extended Game. There is little or no point in playing T of T MP.
It's simply too slow. The Original game, is just that; the same old rules (w/ patches applied) as CivII MPG. So why bother?
With all the brainpower involved here...
If anyone out there can figure out how to play the newest version of Civ, the Extended Game, via MP. PLEASE SHARE it here!?
Hope we can get some more use out of this thing!?

yea long ago i play TOT i the zone.......and guess what? Zone was pathetic...it crashed, lagged, and diplomacy is messed up.IP is truly the only way .But if you wanna have a 4 player IP game or somthing ill host......(got DsL)
but realy you should get CTP2 if you wanna play civs mplayer. Simply cause CTP2 mp has open 24h ours and it comes with the game so no Downloadin or nothin. No need to go to a website etc....

I don't think the extended game can be played (in the traditional sense anyway) under MP as the spaceship reaching AC triggers the end sequence before the override option in events.txt can abort it, hence no future past landing.
You could, however, make a slightly altered version, sans spaceship, whereby a wonder (apollo?) or somesuch, is used instead as the trigger to land settlers/marines on the new planet, enable ultrastring theory, etc.
