I won my first fantasy game on Emperor level (playing as the Infidels). My expansion and innovation strategy does not seem to work as well as it worked in the Extended or SciFi game settings. You apparently need a more militaristic approach if you want to succeed in a fantasy game. I think that is the main reason why my first experience with the Midgard scenario turned out to be ... troublesome (with a very low satisfaction rating, I want to WIN games). Why does the Midgard game seem to be so tough ? The events which lead to doom seem to be triggered quite evenly but the only way I see I can actually win the game is to kill off all other tribes or capture their capital (if you capture all capitals you should have plenty of time to build the ultimated siege engine). But this turns out to be very unrealistic unless I play Goblin (and put nothing but Trolls in the pipeline)...
I am open for suggestions to improve my Midgard 'strategy' (in other words HEEEELLLLPP).
