Help on Extended Game

Hi, I'm a newbie with CIV II ToT altough I played CIV (a long, long, time ago). I'm now discouvering the wonders of the Extended Game. However there are some things I can't figure out:
- I already arrived to Centaury and established an Embassy with the natives. However, I cannot make negotiations with them, because they do not appear in my Foreign Advisor Screen. Is it suppose to happen like this?

- I'm almost exhausting my Scientific research (already I'm researching Future Technology 2), but I can't research technologies like Ultrastring and Robotic Warfare and sorts. Can someone tell me wy?

I don't know if these questions were ever posted. If so, I apologise and ask if you could direct me to the answers.

Have you installed the patch? There is a bug in the Extended Game that the patch fixes. I would say that's the best first step.

It was real easy to solve my "problem" the way you suggested.
With the patch I ended up the game by reaching Transcendency.
