  • John, "Partisans" in the fantasy game?

I have not seen partisans in the fantasy game yet, but I'm wondering if they can occur. The rules.txt file does not seem to have a way to specify what unit is a partisan, so I assume it is always the tenth unit (elven archers in the fantasy game). SO, if I research General Uprisings (equivalent slot to guerrilla warfare), and then my city is taken, will I get a bunch of elven archers?

I hopee I would not get them on a map that they cannot exist on, and I wonder if I will get them even if I cannot build them.

It's a pity that some unit cannot be designated the partisan for each tribe; or maybe it's a good thing we can play without partisans...

    Hi,
Yes, you get Elf Archers, even if
you cannot build them, i'm playing
as human and have just lost an undersea
city to the Unspeakable horror. A bunch
of Elf Archers popped up in the surrounding
    mountains.

So does this mean the If you got one of your cities captured by the Elves, Elven Archers would rise up to defend you!?

Jimm, I'm not sure I understand what you said, please clarify:

You lost a city on map 1 (undersea) and the elf archers appeared on (pick one of the following):

        (A) The undersea mountains on map 1, even though archers are not allowed on this map.

        (B) The nearby mountains on map 0 (surface) where archers ARE allowed, but of course without access to map 1 they cannot retake the city.

Or by any chance, was this an underGROUND city (archers ARE allowed on map 2)?

          (A) The elf archers are on the undersea map.
          Map 1
Where they seem to be survivng quite nicely.
I can only get them to another map by
cheating. I think when i build an astral portal down there i cn bring them up..

OK, JOHN, this may be a bug. I know that if you somehow get units on a map where they "cannot exist", they seem to thrive ok, but they really are not supposed to be there.

Elven archers underwater? Their bowshots ought to be pretty feeble...

I think I'll try to create some in the clouds.

              Hi Toby and John,

If you want to get a unit into a map on which
              they're not allowed, e.g., a dwarf undersea,
start with your dwarf on the surface, and
open up a surface city window. Then scroll
through your cities using the keyboard
arrows until you get to a city on the map
that you want. Close the city window, and the
square on the new map is blinking. Then
use the keyboard arrow to move the unit.
The unit should appear on the new map. I've
never gotten a ground unit on a cloud,
though, but it is east to get flying units
              undersea or underworld.

That's because Heroes can't walk on water (I wih they could). At least the game does not let you place units on terrain they are not allowed to traverse.

Hmm. That's annoying. I thought we'd fixed those pesky Elven Archers.

Mick knows that game a lot better than I do, so I hope he's reading and will weigh in on this one.

                      John,
I'm not sure what you mean by "fixed". I think the partisan slot should have been a unit that is welcome on at least maps 0, 1 and 2 (maybe 3 as well), NOT the archer. I'm not sure any unit in the game would qualify. Most are either too restricted (in maps), or too powerful to be partisans.

Mabe you just intended to get partisans on maps 0 and 2?
