Can you edit .spr files?

Is it possible to edit the .spr files? Is there a program out there that you can use or does someone know the format of the files? If so, I may be able to make the editor myself.

No you can edit them. Microprose has been asked if they would release the .spr file format and they declined.

Surely someone can figure out the format of them. People have figured out more complicated things than that before, I'm sure. I might even try myself.
