  • Midgard II ?

I'm interested in making a follow up to the Midgard scenario and have a couple of questions.
    1) Does Microprose mind or would it be an enfringement on copywright and I can't do it. (I would completely credit the company for creating the background and characters etc.)
    2) If I can, would starting a Fantasy Game as the Infidels give me all the basic files I needed, and I could than just put my altered files in an additional directory? Or would I have to place ALL of the files in the new directory?
I would appreciate it if either someone from Microprose, or someone who knows could back to me on either point. Thanks,

Luckily for you, Midgard is based almost entirely on Norse mythology. You can't copyright a religion (yet). So as long as you didn't claim for it to be an official sequel to Microprose's, I think you're fine, legally.

The problem is, it is really going to be obvious that it's the sequal. I don't want to get around that as the story line I've come up with is a direct continuation of the Midgard Scenario.
My idea was this. It's been quite a few years since Volsang was set packing and things are quite different. Stygians and Goblins are gone (evil was expelled with Volsang... mostly). The civs would be, Elves, Merfolk, Buteos, Dwarves and three seperate human civs (going based on the idea that the humans won the first scenario and dominate). I would be using a lot of the same units (new ones of course, for the Dwarves and expanding tech.)and the same maps and city names. Do you think I could still do it as long as I put in disclaimers? (i.e. This is not an offical Microprose Scenario, Based on Microprose's Midgard etc.)

I suppose another good question I have to ask, is anybody interested in playing a sequal scenario? If no one wants it, and I'm doing this just for personal enjoyment than I really don't need to worry!

I'm no legal expert, but Civ II is designed to allow you to make scenarios. As long as you don't try to sell a sequel to Midgard (or any scenario, for that matter) or claim that it's an official scenario, I don't think anyone here at MicroProse would have a problem with it. (Also, as with any scenario, you can't try to copyright it, because it's a patently derivative work.)
