  • Max Gold; Income And Amount

is there a limit how much gold one can have and one can earn in one turn?

reason I'm asking is, I'm playing the Casus Belli:Magna Bellum Borealis-scenario and a few turns ago I noticed that I can't earn anymore money thru tax income. I have some 46000$. 'vans work ok. is this a limit within the scenario or within Civ2 itself?

a few turns later The Evil Prussians declared war, and for some weard reason my gold counter went to Zero(0).
then in the beginning of my turn it went up to 19000$. so there isn't an income limit, or if there is, its bigger than 18000$ per turn?

Civ2 has a gold ceiling which I remember as 30,000. If you get more than the limit during a turn, I think it resets to 30k at the beginning of the next turn.

But you are playing a scen. The answer lies with its designer. Those effects could be planned or the scen could be buggy.

Apart from the gold questions, is the scen enjoyable??

You can download the 'no-limits' patch that allows basically unlimited gold reserves to be hoarded.

this must be it. 30000$ + my income of 16000+ per turn = 46000$.

yes, that treasury emptying was an event.

yes it is, thank you for asking.
I'm some 130 turns into the scen and I have taken some 80+ cities, wiped out all three main rivals and have an army of some 900 units. the prussians finally declared war, and lost 350 units in my first strike

of course it has been easy against three AIs of equal strenght, but in multiplayer this one could be a real challenge.

some events have not worked proberly (no gold loot from garrisons ) and I could have wanted to build a settler or two to build more roads. but no settlers in this one, only all out war.

but Great scen, all in all. worth a try.

Curt: I'll keep that in mind.

I did a test myself and it bears out what others have said. The program looks like it maxes the gold at 30,000 before going through the year-end process. In my case the excess income was 46,600 and I went from 15,705 (end of 1982) to 62,305 (all of 1983 - no spending done) to 76,600 (beginning of 1984).

On a slightly related note, I've found that I cannot pay to bribe a unit or city unless my current gold is 32,767 or less. Thus I've sometimes had to first spend for production before doing a bribe.
