  • Question about Government switching

    If the "no government switching" is in effect, does that also mean that Republic and Democracy governments do NOT fall whenever they fail to suppress civil unrest?

    I seem to recall playing a scenario where no-gov-switching was in place, and trying purposefully to bring down a Republic government with the idea that the menu would then come up afterward and I could switch governments . . . but it didn't happen no matter how many cities were unhappy.

    Can anyone verify this? or not?

    With government switching off, I think your Dem/Rep civs cannot suffer the collapse.

      I have a related question:

      Is it possible to forbid some form of governments to some civilizations?

        You can restrict governments, but you probably have to award them to specific CIVs via technologies.

          I can clarify somewhat;

          Governments can be FORCED using the cheat menu ... regardless of whether the civ in question HAS the required tech. In terms of scenario planning, Government techs seem frankly irrelevant. Especially if there is no government switching.

          I'm just checking to see if anyone else has managed to bring down a Republic or Democracy government while the no-switching is in place.

            My testing for Bk1936 V has shown that turning the 'no government switching' on, Democracy will survive revolts.

              I've noticed that ai civs will sometimes switch from 'forced' governments unless they have the prerequisite technology.

                Yes, if they don't have the tech, they may switch from a perfectly fine government to despotism. That is, as long as the 'no government switching' flag is unchecked.
