  • Crusader, report here: Medium Aevum RELEASED!

    MEDIUM ÆVUM

By the close of the eleventh century, Jerusalem had been in Muslim hands for over four hundred years. In 1095 Pope Urban II launched an unprecedented military campaign to seize it back – a ‘Crusade’ to purge the Holy Land of ‘the infidel’. Over sixty thousand Christian warriors would journey three thousand miles and for almost three years to reclaim the Holy City in the name of God.

But their adversaries, the Turkish warlords of the Middle East, would resist them every step of the way. In a series of epic battles and bloody massacres, tens of thousands would die as the crusaders inched ever closer towards Jerusalem. The first crusade finally endeded in 1099 - with many more to come!

The shadow of war between Christians and Muslims hang over us today, but it is a war that began nearly a thousand years ago. This clash of civilisations, were what characterised the Middle Ages (Medium Ævum).

    1. French
    2. Anglo-Normans
    3. Holy Roman Empire
    4. Spanish
    5. Polish
    6. Hungarian

    NB! Saracens are NOT playable!

Wow! More crusader scens! Gonna try this one out!

Edit:I'd wish for one with a bigger map though. And it's for one reason. The Holy land is always so small in the scens, and there's not much room for battles. No offence to your scenario at all, mate. I've yet to try it out, but it looks great!

Ok. Tested a little. It´s 1255, I´m playing with Spain, and I have conquered Zaragoza, Valencia and Ucles. Two or three invasions at Cordoba have failed due to the fort house rule Sarracens have built units like crazy, and have took Constantinople (plus it has been very difficult to even keep Toledo in Spain, specially in the first ten turns). Mongols (from the messages that I see) appears to be rolling over Poland

Overall, I like the scenario, it has very good graphics, flavour and some nice units

              Things that are suprsining:

              - I am asked continuosly by other civs to give them the Great Plage techonology, which is amusing. I guess it uses the spot of nuclear technology, isn´t it?

              - Every civ hates me, even when Spain is a little country that is no menace for anyone (well, except maybe Sarracens)

              - Spain appears to not receive too many units via events (only one knight and some templars), specially compared to Germans, English, Polish and French, and even the Pope launched a Inquistion against me...

              - Templars unit appears close to Rome, so I need to wait for the Holy Empire to ask me to retire them in order to magically teletransport them to Barcelona

              - The castle norht of Pamplona is moved out to cities due to the request of the French king in the first turn, which is also surprising

But these minor quirks does not destroy the overall impression: a good scen that I am enjoying a lot

My copy of Civ 2 MGE must hate your scenarios or something. First La Belle Epoque, not this!

These are the error messages I get...

What I get when I try to plays as the Franks:
                  AppName: civ2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: civ2.exe
                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 001b89a2
When I plays as the Anglo-Normans:
AppName: civ2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: unknown
                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000001
                  As the Germans:

                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000001
                  As Spain:

                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00179df3
                  As the Poles:

                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0017b622
As the Magyars (it let me play (sorta), but I couldn't complete the turn!
AppName: civ2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: unknown
                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000
As the Saracens (even though they're unplayable):
                  AppName: civ2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: civ2.exe
                  ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0017b622
I think I've got the latest update of Civ 2, and I know I installed this copy of Civ II as MGE - no "upgrade" from vanilla/CiC/FW like before. Don't know if it would make any difference, though...

I dunno. I'd just like to know why my copy crashes with certain scenarios.

Ghost of Disco, it looks like there is something wrong with your installation... Can you please download this, put it into your CIV2 folder, go to it and do the following:

                    md5sum *.exe
                    md5sum *.dll

EDIT - NOTE: You need to do that in a DOS window....

and send me the output? I will check against my own installation....

Just popped up out of the blue... Have downloaded, will play. It sounds great from Yaroslav's description.

BTW, I thought the Rommel beta was your last scen. Beefed up Tobruk yet?

Actually, I think the problem was that I was trying to run MGE with the ToT CD in the drive. Running MGE with the MGE CD, this scenario seems to be working fine (was playing as Poland - trying - and failing - to expand eastward), and La Belle Epoque as well (I must prepare before trying to retake Strausbourg from the Germans.)

I haven't played much, but it looks good...

I have played a little as France. I have lost the "Holy Land", although LOTS of saracens were needed to conquer it. English backstabbed me - they lots all their cities in the Holy Land, but still keep attacking me over that zone, liking as if they were working with Sarracens.

Anyway, I have taken south Italy and Rouen from them, and I will probably take some more cities from them.

Sarrances have signed peace with Spain (I guess it should not be posible, isn´t it?) after conquering Toledo, Burgos and Barcelona. They are using Barcelona as a base to attack me.

How should I continue? Shall I try to retake the Holy Land? I do not think that will be possible. I will continue enhancing france (building LOTS of monasteries in the forrest ) and atacking Sarracens in Spain. After that, I can try to go for some sarracen cities, but I do not think that I will be able to conquer and mantain the Holy Land. Maybe I should conquer England and/or part of Germany before trying, but I do not want to remove power from Germany, as they have lost some cities to the Polish, and I will need to stop mongols.

What a bad player I am! Sarracens have just overridden my defenses in Montpellier, they have got access to the heart of France.

Just one question, the scenario is though to be played in Deity, isn´t it?
