  • @PietH:

Best thing to do is to delete everything in the Dictator7 folder, EXCEPT your save file!

Then redownload the 'DICTATOR7Scen.zip', and unzip the new files into your folder.

(make sure there is a folder called 'Events' too!)

Run the batch for summer 1943, and tell me what happens.

    PS
You might have played past the turn for the winter 1942 end message.

    • Sorry for being thick, but should I also delete the 11 different season folders within the Dictator7 folder?

Yep - Delete the lot (except the save) and start afresh!

            • Nope erase all the files, except the D7.SAV

The batch program will run Delevent for you.

                • I deleted everything except the saved files and reinstalled the zip file. Also did the multi files zip files again.

When is the winter to summer change, in may or june? I went back to a save from may '43, but didn't get a message to change files. Did it in june, continued playing, but again in december, no message. What am I doing wrong here?

                  • There should only be one zip file for 'multi-files'...

May normally is when the changes happen...Are you using the batch program?

Well, anything that isn't in the events*.txt format, eg, w41_events.txt, events_w41.bak and winter41events.txt are all good; events_w41.txt, eventswinter41.txt and events2.txt are all bad.

Don't need to now, do I? I probably would've dumped all of the 'multi-files' in their own subdirectory (as I suggested in my last post), just for neatness' sake.

                      See above.

Yep, and that's easy if you have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked.

The original Red Front was a Fantastic Worlds scenario. The random selection of multiple events files is a ToT feature. The events*.txt files behaved themselves in FW and MGE, but when I converted the scenario to ToT I had to use a different naming scheme. I changed the file extensions from TXT to BAK.

I don't know what's going on on your setup, but at my end it all looks pretty random.

Both of you guys were still naming your events files incorrectly until the very last - where it didn't matter because you ended up placing them in a separate subdirectory. Anyway, glad it's finally sorted. Christ, anyone reading all of this is going to run to the hills when faced with writing a batch file for the first time.

                      • Aha! But we novices finally listened to the old veteran and
found out that merely putting the files in their own folder
and directing the batch to that folder works just fine!

I am glad it worked in the end - Though I think PietH may
be best starting a new game from scratch, if he still had problems.

                        • Hey, I'm just busy conquering England!

But yes, probably best if I install it all again. So the last download you posted contains all in one?

                          • I must say that I was disappointed by the lack of initiative on the allied part. No north african campaign, no invasion of Italy, no aerial bombing campaigns and since I occupy england by june '44, most likely no D-Day. But I reckon this is part of faulty game I'm playing?

                            • If the events are not showing up, it will be due to your save!

In my game, (which is at Oct 1945, as Romania) I have witnessed some of the more insane battles by the Allies.

They took over Africa, got the gates of Rome, and had an apocalyptic battle in France.

Also the Greater Romanian Empire now stretches from Hungary to the Caspian sea!

All that lovely oil has also made my nation rich and powerful enough to buy loads of weapons.

The Soviets and Nazis are also bogged down in a slugfest on the Leningrad/Moscow line.

                              PS
Before you reinstall, download these new updated files!

                              • @Catfish
                                We got there eventually

I did not realise ToT picked anything named events.txt regardless of what it said after that word. Now I will do as you say for my batch file and put the season+year first!

My pal at work explained what some of the other lines mean:

                                CLS = Clear screen
PAUSE = Waits until you press key before moving on
                                ECHO = Displays text
@ECHO OFF = Hides the word echo when you run the batch

I know this is pretty basic stuff but if you have never done any programing before it is interesting to learn and understand! IT lessons were a joke when I was at school. I don't think they managed to teach me anything useful, though to be fair I was not an easy kid to teach!

For a former technophobe I think I am making some good progress. I even made a simple batch file to load up the programmes I use at work
