  • Robotech Scenario (revived)

    Hey guys!

Merry Xmas to you all! This holiday brought me an unbelievable amount of free time so I've decided to revive one of my oldest Civilization 2 projects" Robotech Scenario" It is based on ana anime series of the same name. I know that this name is not alien to some of you. I grew up watching it. I plan to complete this scenario before the New Years for beta release.

    Here's the layout:

    I. Regress and decay of Robotech Masters civilization did not pass a remote planet of Tirona. A formerly flourishing colony is experiencing a collapse: devastation of planetary ecosystem, break up of centuries old society structure, perishing of ancient technology. Loss of communications with other worlds meant that planetary government were to deal with the growing problems on its own. It, however, seemed unlikely that Tirolian civilization would experience a revival: Protoculture storage – basis of the entire society were nearly completely depleted. A steadily growing dissent movement against decadent Triumvirate government slowly took up arms. The rebels claimed to stand for re-innovation of Tirolian society and were rumoured to be lead by a clone of Zor himself, the same Zor that founded the Masters civilization. A war that broke out between Triumvirate and “Disciples of Zor” shut down the entire ecosystem regeneration project, further weakened world’s economy and turned much of the remaining infrastructure into rubble. There seemed no end to the struggle.

II. Around the time when Robotech Masters left for Earth a group of Zentraedi warriors landed on the surface of the planet. They were charged with a mission to protect the last known Robotech factory in existence. Little did the local population know about a base established in a remote region of Tirona. For a time…

Around Earth year 2050 REF (Robotech Expeditionary Force), during its research of Tirolian archives learned that the last surviving Protoculture production matrix was hardwired into the Robotech factory now hidden in Tirona. Hoping to find this source of protoculture REF has dispatched a force to retrieve it, headed by general Hunter’s son.

III. When the REF arrived at Tirona they were not welcomed by Triumvirate government. Despite their objections REF had established a base in Southern desert and began to prepare for planetary-wide search. Contact with Micronean culture and news of liberation of Tirol by REF troops made half of cities under the control of Triumvirate rebel and form a new “democratic” government that aligned themselves to Terrans. A war between Triumvirate and REF was inevitable, but another event grasped the attention of all parties on Tirona: the arrival of Invid. Attracted to Protoculture, the Invid had landed on Tirona lead by Regis exiled form Earth, the Invid are prepared to use any means to achieve their goals.

IV. Tirona now stands on a brink of a devastating global struggle. Newcomers and all local factions are bound to be drawn into a global conflict that would decide future of the planet and all civilizations involved.

This is the story behind this scenario. Gameplay would consist of a quest-like search for the Robotech Factory by REF and Invid, civil war and rebuilding effort by local populations. All civilizations will be able to develop technologies, trade, build and fight. Special technological trees are also being completed as well as Civ-specific units and buildings. I am really looking forward to completing this scenario.

My main problem is not gameplay related issues, but graphics. In order to create a good atmosphere graphics for this scenario would have to be completely re-done. This is something I cannot do very well. I would appreciate any help with terrain, city graphics, units and other icons.

Arthedain and Joeb WK gave me great help on CFC during the first stage of the development of this scenario. I will certainly be using their work.

I take any suggestions from Robotech fans and any graphical or other help anyone is willing to offer. Unit and Terrain graphics are cruscial to the completion of this scenario, so please come forward if you have the time.

I am not familiar with the Robotech world but would like to help if I can. I enjoy searching out new and unusual terrain graphics.

Would it be possible to post some screenshots of the current terrain set in game and a description of what you are looking for?

It would be great if you can help

I've been collecting pictures of terrain to this time.
I'm looking for a bleak desert panet with pockets of green fields. Main colors are a mix of Bege, Vanila for the dusty parts and Grim Blue and Grey stone for ruins and remaining buildings.
This movie contains atmoshpere of the planet I am trying to create:

I am looking for graphics of Mountains, Hills, Desert and pseudo-Grecko-Roman ruins as "special tiles".

EDIT: Besides a picture in the first post here are a few images as well:

Quick question. Do helicopters count as "air" under "*2 defence vs air" ability?

The "2x defence vs air" ability works for both air and land units, so it doesn't matter if the helicopter is designated as either. That ability works for any unit.

Or if you meant that supposing the heli is the attacker...dunno. The heli has a foot in both land and air abilities, so I would guess it counts as both an air and land unit. Cyrion?

I meant both attack and defence, thanks!

Wouldn't mind a second opinion also

Look over at the General Forum thread I started. They're often better versed in standard rules questions than we rule benders.

Ha! Not quite, but there are hive units

As usual real life cut into my plans, but the project is still advancing. It has gotten a little more complicated once I've re-designed it in favour of a tech scenario vs the original "combat" one.

I am still missing the terrain graphics and I'm in real need of them as they form a background of the game. I'm still looking though.

I'll post some pics once I make more progress.

                          Any volunteer input is appreciated!

Over at Catfish cave there's a great collection of graphics. It's for ToT, but It's work a look though.
