I have no idea but Gareth seems to have some mixed feelings about the place. Maybe their soccer team is a bit of a joke??

I was simply laughing at Ciaran's ironic use of the word 'lovely' in the context of the industrial Northern city of Leeds. It's actually a good night out there, and there's plenty to see and do (not least their rather sub-standard football club Leeds Utd), but lovely it ain't!

To put it in a N American context, C. might have said he was going to visit the lovely city of Detroit

                Like Detroit?? Omigod!!

There are 2 ways to cross from Detroit to Windsor on the Canadian side of the St Clair river . . . . a great bridge and a prehistoric, claustrophobic tunnel under the river.

One year we missed the bridge exit from I75, had to drive through downtown Detroit [unforgettable Third World experience, even in broad daylight], and take the twisty and dark tunnel [traumatic].

Sounds like Ciaran needs all the good wishes he can get for his vacation? in the lovely metropolis of Leeds.

All I know is that the Who recorded a great live album there.

                    'Live at Leeds'

Apparently the other gig the Who did at the same time was in Hull, which beats Leeds into a cocked hat for industrial 'loveliness'

Now Kingston Upon Hull really is a sh*thole!

I have only seen Leeds from a train window but it looked OK. The nightlife is meant to be good.

The most horrible town I have ever seen is Liverpool, somehow the European capital of Culture!?!

Lots of bad choices all round, by the sounds of it. But London more than makes up for all of them!

                          Cheers, chaps!

I'm back now, and enjoyed my stay in the coolest city in Yorkshire... (or so I'm told!)

Didn't get to see as much as I would like, but the band (Destruction) kicked ass,
and the hotel was a short stagger from the the venue and bus station!

                          Couldn't ask for better!

All in all, I had a brilliant time, and will be heading back down soon!

This time I plan to stay an extra day to check out the city proper!
