  • Allied Flag Dilemma!

    Good evening!

I have an awkward situation regarding flags for a combined UK/US/Commonwealth civ.

On one hand, I would like to use a known flag, but not a made up composite...I find those ugly.

On the other I do not want exclude the influence of the USA, or Britain, by using either exclusively.

One option is to drop national flags altogether, and use a blank colour flag...But that is dull!

In Bitterfrost IV - I used a sword Icon, with each faction's colour shown...I could use that route.

I am thinking of meeting these choices halfway, and using a hybrid UK/US flag - Shown below!

    What to do?
    Stick with this flag?
    Do something else?

    Suggestions/opinions are welcome!

In your scenario, can the allies make US units or Commonwealth units?
If they can't, you should let only the British flag.
And make an US or Commonwealth flag with the units...

The Allies have access to both UK and US units in the scen.

To begin with there is predominately UK units, but as 1942 wears on, the US hardware appears.

Tack the flags to the actual city graphic which would allow for more room to show off the flags. Use a basic star to show that the city has a unit in it. Be wary of adding the flags to the area with the size number graphic as that will expand once the city hits double digits.

            Composite flag:
Left half: Left half of US flag
Right half: Right half of UK flag

McMonkey did the same in his World War II Europa scenario, and it's something I'd recommend for a civ representing the Anglo-American coalition.

As mentioned, I find 'half-half' composite flags not to my taste.

              No offence intended!

In the stock footage of the war, Truman often called the alliance the united nations.

You could use a UN flag.

Can Harry's solution work here? Otherwise UN sounds good to me.

a UN flag seems to be a good solution.

I don't think the UN flag would look right. I still think a composite flag is the most sensible option. Although it does not look quite as nice as a single flag it is the most accurate choice.

Curt, this is what I've been fooling around with for my Roman scenario. Notice that I used the flag slots for Standards and identified the city orientation with "flag blocks".

I don't think a UN flag would look right. Yes the UN founded in 1942, but no force fought under a UN flag.
