  • WW2 Fight for freedom playtest

this scenario will be finally a multi players one. (could be a single player too)
My first ideas were a little too ambitious for my knowledge in the design of scenarios…

May 1940, German are about to invade Holland, Belgium and France…
Three civilizations are playable: British, German and Soviet.
Before release this scenario, it remains to test it…
    some volunteers?

I need icones for improvement too.

This is a world war two scenario in Europe. And it’s for Test of Time.

Three civilizations are playable: German, British and Soviet. The other ones are Free French, French, Italians, Neutrals (only some cities for the Events), Spain and Turkey as barbarians. The last one has no role before the end of the scenario.

There are a lot of technologies to research. Some of them are specifics to one civilization (“U Boat” technology for Germans for example). It can give to the player some free units (“Afrika Korps” technology gives some “Afrika Korps” units to the Germans for example).

Some Events give units to the players too : Operation Barbarossa or operation Torch for example.

            More to come…

I am away on holiday for a few days with no copy of ToT. When I get home I will take a look. One question, are the railroads actual railroads or roads that just look like railroads? (If that makes sense!)

Also, you said this is for multiplayer. Are there any players out there playing ToT? I do not know of any although I cannot see any reason why people couldn't! I suppose it depends how many PBEM types own a copy of ToT!

Always good to see new work, especially when it appears out of the blue

                      I've added two events :
                      - the first which enables Brtish to attack Vichy french when France is half occupied
                      - the second which enables German to invade Vichy France after the begining of the operation torch

                        This looks very promising!

Nicely done map, very well chosen graphics. It looks very crisp. I've just played 3 turns, but I can say I like the feel of it. The unit stats allow lots of mobility and good offensive capacity.

There are some interesting design elements, such as dividing the French into Vichy and "Free French", in reality, the portion of France conquered by the Germans. Also using a neutral civ and the barbarians to allow some neutrals to be attacked and some not.

The armies are very small on the western front. Historically, each side fielded nearly 100 divisions - millions of men. Most of these were foot infantry, except the British, who were entirely motorized. The German moble forces were just a fraction of their overall army. The French did have several armoured and motorized divisions.

Because of this, the Germans seem to have an easy time of it. I rolled through Amiens and up to Dunkirk, where I wiped out the BEF, as well as capturing all of the low countries in the first turn. Is this as you intended?

The RAF at this time did not have the Lancaster or the Typhoon. I think the Wellington and the Blenhiem might be more correct, but Fairline or Case would have a better idea.

The Maginot Line is invulnerable, while historically it was vulnerable to dive bombers and combined arms assaults. Perhaps with larger infantry armies on both sides, a tough but beatable fort unit might add to the fun.

I'm not clear whether this is for multi-player or single player. There are lots of historical events, creating units in Africa, the Balkans and so on. They make more sense in a single player game, to simulate historical moves of enemy civs. In a multiplayer game, they have the effect of forcing your operations into a rigid historical pattern.

I'm looking forward to continuing my game, and I'll send further comments later.

Thank you for this first impression.

In fact, in the beginning, the scenario had been indicated to play as a british. A Multi files scenario. With a more detailed course of the various stages of the war. But the design became too long and perhaps too ambitious for me.
I had arrived until the winter 40-41.
This is why, I worked in parallel on a simplified version of the scenario while waiting to be able to continue the first version.
If the impressions are good onthis one, that will encourage me to continue the first version.
You are right, the troops on the west front are too very few, it will be necessary me to rebalance that.

Here's a screenshot of the west front in the first version.

you are right also for the lancaster or the typhoon. But a simplified version limit the number of slot for the units.
In the multi files version, at this time the RAf has the Wellington and the swordfish bomber.
The Maginot line was to be impenetrable for German. But as soon as Paris is conquered, it disappears.
It is true that I tested this version less than the first: it maybe more adapted for a single player game.

This looks very good! A nice take on the much-overlooked early WW2 period.

What is the purpose of the city called 'Afrika Korps'?
