  • Fantasy Freeciv using SL art

Just FYI: I put together a nice unitset for Freeciv's 'Fantasy' modpack using art published by the SL community!

Posted to the Freeciv forum here at Apolyton.

To work with Freeciv, images are converted to png and the mask colors are made transparent.

    Hope you didn't mind!

Your zips do not seem to work.

Did you rename the zip segments as the instructions said? At least one user on the Freeciv forums managed to extract it, so I don't think it's (completely) broken.

Have you cleared Catfish's units with the author? I can't open the zips either (why not just repost a good zip with the right name?), but at least some of his LOTR units are reserved for his scenario, as stated on his site.

I used the image published on the SL wiki, so I thought it was 'public': http://sleague.apolyton.net/index.ph...ntasyUnits.bmp

Anyway, I'll certainly seek his approval. Does he frequent these forums these days?

Regarding the zips; Carfish's large fantasy unit set is over 500k even as zipped png, so I had so segment it. I used 7z to do it; maybe you need an unzipper that supports segmented archives?

Ok, I reduced the large image to include only the stuff actually used in the modpack, while removing all 'offending' art.

This also eliminates the segmented zip issue.

              Good show!

The issue with Catfish might arise from the fact that he is
using certain units exclusively for a project of his own.

You can find him at 'Catfish's Cave' site, or PM him on Poly.

Actually he roams the empty hallways of the civfanatics forum now.

IIRC, something about Poly destroying his login?

I had the same experience twice back in 2005, it was not intentional. Long story short I had to reactivate my account using a new, reliable e-mail address, problems gone. It could be as simple as that, provided that one notified the Poly people him/herself first . They were very helpful. Thank you guys, once again.

Then again, if it is the e-mail that's causing the problem, they might not get any message. Or he may not receive their reply. Ahem.

I had the 'cannot login' problem too, but the god-admins fixed it pretty swiftly, I recall...

He has chosen not to receive PMs; neither here nor on Civfanatics (where he's known as Wobbegong.)

Does somebody know any other way of getting in touch with him?

In the meantime, I made another unitset using S-League gfx, this time for the Ancients modpack.

This time, I used the wonderful work of fairline and BeBro.

I'm no ancient warfare buff, so I will probably have mismatched some units.
