Help! ToT won't work :(

I have a problem, for some time now.

ToT won't work on my new computer. I've installed it, but when I try to play, it says that c:\(...)civ2.exe isn't a correct application of system Win32.
What's wrong?

I have no idea what windows do I have, probably XP or something. It's a new laptop.

My civ2 crashes as well, but only sometimes, so I won't bother You, yet.

For system info, doesn't
START/CONTROL PANEL/SYSTEM
tell you which version of Windows your laptop has?

right click on the TOT icon on the desktop =>click on the last row in the little window => go to compatibility => mark the compatibility mode and set it to windows 2000

TOT should work now.

It's Windows XP.

I didn't have an icon on the desktop, so I went to exe file. I've switched the compatibility to windows 2000, but it still doesn't work. Perhaps I should reload the computer...?

I would back everything up (scenarios, etc) and then remove the program using the proper un-installer.

Then re-install the ToT program fully, with all the proper patches (Patch 1.1) and upgrades (no-limits).

If you are running a legit copy, there is no reason why XP should hate ToT.
