    SlowThinker?? More like DeepThinker.

Probably the only thing 'slowing' our friend's thinking process is translating his thoughts to English from his natural language. His detailed research-based posts in threads about the inner workings of Civ2 gameplay are legendary among those of us who love (and still play) the best of the Civ games.

For years there was a running joke perpetuated by ST that he never actually played the game, and certainly not all the way to conclusion. I supposed it was a kind of challenge on his part...first you must refute/defeat my logic; then I will consider playing against you. Well, few ever came close, and when he finally did play, in one of the Early Landing Challenges sponsored by solo, his style was unique, very powerful, and quite successful. A great master of the game was among us all along.

Not the least of his contributions is the way he answered questions about fine points of the game freely sharing knowledge with those of us who actually were somewhat 'slow', usually citing the relevant threads or Great Library entries that discussed the topic. When the site changed servers some years back (I think that was the cause), and most of the Great Library became unreachable, SlowThinker recovered the content and reestablished the GL, still keeping it updated.

Quite a lot of accomplishment for a homeless guy in the Czech Republic!!

Paddy, but you asked me for my ceremonial speech already and I sent you 14 large paragraphs. All other people in The Hall have 1-2 paragraphs, and I believe 15 or 16 will not correspond to my real stature. I don't want to be overrated.

      Monk, only four paragraphs...
(btw the best thing is I don't have to refrain from those d. girls now)

        Only four, but poetry, nonetheless.

With all the "Who the heck is SlowThinker??" comments in the Community thread, a short focused statement has the advantage of not overtaxing their short attention spans.

And be nice, ST. At least I posted something. I kept waiting for somebody to say something in your behalf. As time for this tribute slipped away I dragged myself from my deathbed (so to speak), to the keyboard, to wave the flag for you.

Among those who know Civ2 you are not underrated. Congratulations.

          ST, congrats! Well deserved.

I second Bloody Monk's tribute - eloquent and incisive. The only problem with the resurrected Great Library is that Czech server farm keeps getting spamblocked on our blacklisting service.

BM, you know well I am kind.
Frankly said, the problem that bothers me now is I will have to write 4 paragraphs reciprocally for you soon. And you know that 2 sentences for me are more strenuous than 4 paras for you. I think I will stop to send votes to you...

FireWall are not only against mails and spam. Some FireWalls protects networks from contacting non professional sites.
For example, if I click on the link under your post, I have a message as (in french) :

                      ST,

I believe that Elephant and JCP are reporting problems experienced while surfing at work, not from their personal computers. The problem is unwise businesses blocking non-business related site access from their networks. For some reason, there is an expectation that folk will work while at work.

They have such a lack of understanding!!

AOL was blocking tiscali.cz for a while too.

But the 2nd copy ("Apolyton attachment") worked, didn't it?
I made two copies also because some people from CivFanatics weren't able to connect to Poly.

Congrats, ST. Your GL contribution has been invaluable to the community of C2 players and designers. It was also rewarding to work with you on the combat calculator.

Congratulations SlowThinker. It is good to see your contributions being recognized by the community.
